(note---Doreen---this isn't that great of a poem but I thought I'd post it here anyway. What is wrong with it---well, a little simplistic about the subject----yeah, people that shoot up their school are mentally unstable to say the least and probably beyond smiles and reminiscing)
Lost for words
Though the bewilderment comes in words
Thoughts that are the echoes of footsteps
In your old high school
That you sneak in
Visit again
Though you shouldn’t be there
Different world
Armed to the teeth
Too many tragedies
Odd strangers
Lost for words
Screaming in cockeyed gunfire
You see their eyes on TV, on Google
Never learned the meaning of life
Which isn’t their pain
Their wants-needs-desires
They never learned to look in mirrors
Forget words, bewilderment
They never smiled to themselves
Innocently like a pop song then
Like footsteps reminiscing now
The sunlight through a homeroom window

Re: Lost for Words
Oh no... was there another school shooting?
Hey, Dan, this is a fine poem... I like it. It's a heartfelt response to the shock of school shootings which have happened much too often. I don't understand the gun laws (or better said, the lack of gun laws) in our country. Tragedy after tragedy!

Re: Lost for Words
I put this on Facebook but I had an idea for a poem----a psychologically dark one and I thought----not good for FB. Haven't written that poem yet----let me take a preliminary stab at it on another thread here.
The Irish Sea Is Always In Turmoil, Even When Calm.
Re: Lost for Words
there seems to be some profound disconnects these days...maybe they were always there, the rage, the hatred , but it's easier to get deadlier weapons...and somehow perhaps influenced by graphic video games and motion pictures, the fantasy of permanently leaving your mark on society has become a recurring theme for infamy...tough subject irish, but handled well
