Magic Revision 2

Post by theirishsea » September 1st, 2015, 4:12 pm

tap-tap

quick flips of paper
swish of cloth

all heads magnetized
to one point
the man with a wand

it is magic
how a baton
thinner than a divining rod
or Moses’ mythical staff
can invoke,
then part silence
and roar a swell of sound
with the slightest quiver
or grandest sweep,
though he doing nothing himself
but disturbing molecules of air.
Look at the baton;
how the arm attached is possessed,
a snake of sound follows motion’s instrument,
how the cloud of silence parts;
a vibration of metaphorical sunlight blows through
heralding brass tubes, around the curves of French horns,
or moonlit merry piccolos dance.
It is magic how a person
with nothing but a stick and his body-sway like a tree
the Furioso of storm,
can cause others
to expound through the limiting registers of sound
a round and then a new round of musical theme,
perhaps a volley in a war,
a rumble, grumble,
or a sweetness so pianissimo
an enchanted faerie dance,
a tinkle of feet,
a fey wink,
or it may just be a pinch of sound
in a simmering melody
unless there is a story
riding the incomparable paraphrase of music,
perhaps the wrath of God
or a human tragedy
rebounds from the happy forgetting,
steams seriously from a kettle drum,
or explodes in grandiose procession,
percussion’s vast thumping,
stumping along a dark storyline
until the morning's twitter
of daily rivers
feather movement
and bows and strings wing
aspiration or sorrow,
or the very timbre of joy itself.
O Magic
Mountain of Sound,
Fountain of Sound,
how from the tap at the beginning
and a thin reed,
a child's ear
not knowing the score,
or what a score is,
hears
out of thin air
thick swaths of dancing music,
as if the waving of the wand
sprinkled, deluged an ocean
of wondrous sound.
Oh, to be ignorant though feeling
And on the mind’s nascent shore
With a life ahead
Growing like the sunlight
And the rivers of lands and magic
To explore !

I'm trying. I think this is better than before. The mugwump will probably find holes in the wording but I'm not giving up----not to please him or silence him but to make any necessary corrections.

changed

riding the inexpressible paraphrase of music,

to

riding the incomparable paraphrase of music,

better? Hopefully.

Good capture of the art of conducting. Brought it to mind as if I were there. 8)
