that's the way I feel today

what if I never get to the bottom of this
what if time runs out on me digging down
into the depths of humanity, spelunking
into the the caves of universal who's and why's

It must be down there somewhere...this might be
a psychedelic rabbit hole, and if it is, well
that's Alice's fault, but if it's just a plain old ditch
then I guess it's on me, don't you fucking hate that ?

It's like when you are in the woods for two weeks
in this cozy cabin working off and on on this jigsaw puzzle
with five thousand pieces and two colors, and you invest
half of your vacation determined to develop this picture

of gray geese flying in a gray sky, and you are determined
to show the world ( yourself at the moment ) that there isn't
a cardboard enigma on the planet that can't be tamed if you
set your mind to it..........it's day fourteen

you're still working on it as you pack in between....the hikes to the falls
are over, the trout are chillin' in the cooler, your calves ache a little
from the rugged trails....and it hits you like an indignant woman's slap
across your face...."a piece is Missing !!"....well....that's the way I feel today
