changing oil into peace

Post by saw » November 8th, 2015, 10:04 am

sitting in faux leather oil change lobby
glazed eyes and donuts, weak burnt coffee
tv blaring painful game show, adults
dressed in outlandish costumes jumping
up and down like ADHD children, my mind
makes a connection to torture in Guantanamo

all patrons on their phone, lap top, tablet
electronic devices in every single hand, I think
about all the invisible waves penetrating
the fingers, penetrating the heart and soul
disruptions of normal healthy circuitry
I'm trapped in a roomful of addicted multi-taskers

all getting their fix, one eye on the emcee, one eye
on their device, television way too loud for me to read
my book, think my own thoughts, the cashier says
she is not allowed to turn it down....turn it off....wow
against the rules to want peace, I am only here for an hour
she's stuck here all day long, I no longer feel sorry for myself

I've learned some valuable lessons this morning
they come with the cost of clean oil and an unused filter

peace is against the rules, and new oil makes that a certainty
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

and our children's children shall carry on,
as plastic miners, reclaiming our waste,

many is a word

I like the twist in the ending.

and they keep telling us that our presense in the middle east is about freedom.

they tell us such beautiful lies.
When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak. ~ Audre Lorde

You're very evocative with the details, and you have a good sense of narrative flow. Your poems are a pleasure to read, and mull on.
