inevitable clutter

I should just
fold up my tables
no matter how
hard I try they
continue to accumulate
everything

from art supplies
to snot rags
bills to water bottles
advils to my wallet and keys

which I don't mind so much
because of a phobia
about losing them
my change is everywhere

my scissors and colored
pens buried beneath debris
the only solace I have
is when I look at pics

of Picasso's and other artists
studios and see them in
similar disarray

fact is it just comes with
the territory and my
only choice is surrender

It is clutter but it looks ordered. I saw the reconstruction of Francis Bacon's art studio in the Dublin Museum about a decade ago. That studio was a fire hazard and a junk bin----uninhabitable. Your place is civilized compared to that. Maybe you could clear a little space but it isn't bad----and besides, you are an artist, a sculptor, a poet, a musician. You aren't an accountant. If you were an accountant doing my income taxes, I'd be worried.

You studio has a few pieces of trash----the bottle and a couple of things but it doesn't look bad. Maybe you need another table or shelf?

I see a wire sculpture on the wall----maybe a 2nd one on the right.

I don't have a lot of specific examples to support my
suspicion, but I suspect clutter might be a condition closely
associated with the artistic temperament. At least
I was thinking so recently when I was taking a tour
of a school I was hoping to get my son into; everything
in every classroom and the hallways and the commons
was very prim, eerily neat. And then I was shown
the art room. Chaos. But, that said, I think it was
actually the most welcoming room in the whole building.

Embrace it, I say. Besides, the whole world's a mess, really.

It is pleasing to read a poem one can relate to; something
that makes one feel less alone in one's "faults." This
one did that nicely.

for me there is no way to make art neatly, the process is freewheeling when I'm in the creative zone, and things must be flung in the process,...splattered paint , sawdust, an array of things to choose from spread out on a table that to others seems chaotic, but to me is perfectly reasonable is the only way to fly.....I'm actually in the process of moving my studio to another room, which has allowed me survey the inventory again so that I can start a new mess..ha ha

If you will add some cats an African gray and a toddler you will have something like mine. My rule for my own self is that it is accepted as long as it constantly changes and is relevant , so it is a massive collection of stuff everyplace I can find to put it.( its getting more interesting) I lose it all the time but I suppose some one finds it and uses it .....chuckle
