stocking cap pulled down,
the eyes can still the ground
which is all I care for at this moment
my focus is on the earth, I dwell
on rocks and sticks and bugs
I would normally miss if I marched
headlong into the future, I want
reminders that life exists below
the eyesight of men with big plans,
an ant carries a giant leaf thirty times
his size like Hercules pulling down
the columns of the temple in protest
for justice, a worm aerates the soil
free of charge, has a mission a tycoon
can't understand from his penthouse
so I walk unafraid of bumping into a tree
rather I welcome the collision, the embrace!
other hikers do not laugh at me, they know
the power of the hug, they know this man
with his hat over his eyes can't look anymore
at the billboarded world, he has come
to the forest to see the earth
one last time in all it's glory, he has come
to see, before the shades of night, fall on top of him
the shades of night were falling fast
the shades of night were falling fast
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
you may end up where you are heading

Re: the shades of night were falling fast
a wonderful narrative with its detail of respect and humility
Re: the shades of night were falling fast
thank you judih.....appreciate your comment.....got to the woods yesterday, but today the rain is thick as a brick....this will make horse racing fans unhappy....there is a big celebration in Baltimore they call The Preakness today.....it's the second gem of three races they call The Triple Crown...I'm not into horse racing , so have never been there....the other reason is inside the track ( they call it The Infield ) are hundreds of folks drunk out of their minds...it's a real spectacle....there are always arrests....outside The Infield in the grandstands are another class of people that dress to the nines, with loudly colored suits and big floppy hats...it's a tale of two cities....the folks with the money and the folks with giant rolling coolers of beer....a fascinating dichotomy....for sure...
