prayer for doreen

fragile as a flitting hummingbird's wings
lovers and friends are stolen without
notification, plucked in mid-air
in nets wielded by unsympathetic gods

our moments bathed in light forever highlighted
by our losses, joyous connections of hearts
simpatico...souls meshed in glorious tempos
only dreamed of when we were alone and waiting

everything is temporary.....we know this, but
Why now great spirit, why now....why
have you taken this gift from me
just as I was accepting my good fortune

give me strength to cope with your madness
help me reconcile the magnitude of your cruel
choices....this inappropriate timing you call fate,
let me learn to love again in my immeasurable grief

I wanted to write a poem for you doreen
to help ease the pain, but now realize there are no words
for this, so just know my heart soars
like an eagle of compassion across the miles to yours

may peace and acceptance find your wounded spirit
