The Battle Field has Come Home

Post by Brian mclaughlin » July 8th, 2016, 8:11 am

This armed America
the one they told us
would be a polite society
when all carry weapons

our cities
they've become killing fields
we as a people
have become the worst of all animals

officers taking lives
claiming they fear for their own
snipers now returning the favor
as they fear the police

it seems as the road towards that polite society
has become paved with the dead
merely bricks mortered in place
with their blood

will we see be fewer combatants
as the body count rises
or are the re-enforcements
on their way
When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak. ~ Audre Lorde

All to real sir. When I was a young long hair here in the south I was told by a police chief At the university of Alabama campus that if he saw me again he was going to kill a bank robbery suspect behind the bank which was across the street, he and the other police man with him meant it I could tell I was handcuffed at the time shoved up into a telephone booth. I had my back pack and gear for the road with me , I slipped out of town in the midnight shadows >Our sad country will find that we have a new civil war growing and it will be so sad and terrible .There are enough fools out there with high-powered guns and no balls who only want to get some attention, others who will want to be heroes but will make horrible mistakes and through it all the N.R.A. will shout on and on about our right to be crazy dangerous to ourselves and others at will , your poem holds a desperate truth. every one around me carries guns I carrie a harmonic and if trouble starts I will run away as fast as I can and play as well as I can, don't shoot the blues player!
I have found I can not reason with these people ,guns are like religion to them they just feel in control, but the truth is I have lost two dear friends one shot by accident and the other by his own gun ,some kid had found in his truck and worked a round into the chamber, he had left it empty but with the clip in it,he bumped into it in the truck and it went off.
Now it is so easy to get a big gun, they sell them in Walmart for gods sake,it is so easy ,then go across the bay you can double the money in the projects, I know folks who do all the time.I can buy and sell as many guns to whom ever I want with no real oversight
.Unfortunately I think you poem is spot on.
