air quality code orange
but orange is the new red
awhile back they skewed
the measuring system 'cause
the didn't want to freak people
out with code reds everyday
so they just changed the numbers
so now when it's code orange you can
bet it's code red, I tried to walk
came back in 8 minutes, my
recovering body said no way
couldn't pull down a decent breath
and so it is here in B'mo this week
holed up with my AC and PC
air conditioning and computer
some books and some music
and lots of naps
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

A sudden coolness
last night
Relief
AC working
All day relaxing
Seeing friends
@ Nola & jojo's
Looks like a sunny day
At least that's my view
From my cave
Time to wanders

about to take off
looks like i can skirt the rain
nothing like hope
to fuck you up
but it's cool out
and i been cooped up
too damn long
looked over a new route
but couldn't ride it yesterday
sounds like a title for a poem
"Ride it Yesterday"
so i'm gonna do it now
big circle & more than half of it
new road for me
tried a new circle route few days ago
big whammy! that one -
damn bust ass ridges goin' north - south
and me goin east
fine set of calculations that one
don't know what's out there today either
that's the way it is and wouldn't have it otherwise
gonna loop up to mexico - yes, there is a mexico
in Yew Nork, just south of texas, yew nork -
i ain't kidding
then south on a road name of Pumphouse Road
saw the name - couldn't resist
then a big wander to hook with the state route
called the Warrior's Trail from when
the fierce Haudenosaunee knew these lands as home
then north to what i call
home
gonna continue this part of the jam
on wheels
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

flow....the rhythm
not a race
no never
sanctified spirit
rolling and tumbling
uphill or down
speeding at will
no brakes or breaks
the landscape flies by
then rest
chugga-chugga
the train moans
people cough
and babble
some snore upon dreams
i watch it fly by
in silence
like jam oozing
perpetually

... write - and write again
bam the jam
i always get reminded that the things
that are hard to believe
exist right alongside the things
that are easy to believe
the sun has this agreement
with some of the trash
that lines the roads in that when
it shines on it the trash
glitters in response
there are bones out there
that need to be collected
or at least seen
bam the jam
and repeat
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

wish I could work
i took it all for granted
like everyone does
complained about the heat
spit venom about the boss
and even in self employment
grumbled that I was tired
but now I want it back
now that I am weak, on the mend
I want to have a project.....
cabin fever is a killer
the temperature of nothingness
with burn you up
like a trashcan fire, and
patience and hope remind you
not so subtlety of what was
the challenge is to ride it out
like a tin can tossed in a violent ocean
ride the crests like a hang-ten man
singing elvis songs in the bonzai pipeline
curling your toes over the end of the bored
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

i don't want to take
or hold territory
i wanna be a tornado
whirligigging
roaring
swirling cross the prairie
until the dark clouds
suck me back up
and the sun comes out
everyone standing in shock
i'm reading ulysses
james joyce
maybe that's why

inch by inch
a slow way to go
the mind wants more than this
the body needs some action
but I dwell in the patience
of virtuous acceptance
bide my time with all
the grace I can muster
hitch my wagon to the sun
scream like Edvard Munch
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

at long long last
here
at the farm stand
in cardboard boxes
atop the rough wooden bench...
TOMATOES
real tomatoes
grown under sun
and rain
blemished
flecked with the soil
from which they sprang
FRESH TOMATOES
at last!
and yellow squash
and one early bell pepper
oh yes
summer is finally here!

moonlight at one end of my house
sun coming up at the other
for this moment
silhouettes live
caught the train at a crossing yesterday
while out on the bike
the graffiti on the boxcars going by
people sending out their signature
to roll through american landscape
to catch up to me
on a country road
and all of us animated
by the same blessed breath
carrying the same blessed load
cargo for pay
to the end of the line
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

up and down the hills
yesterday, the will to move
beyond the limitations
of an aching belly, which is
much different than bellyaching
the scars carry reminders
in each and every step, but
the more I walk the closer
I get to peace, the nearer
I get to being whole again
which makes me laugh, since
things have been removed
that ain't coming back, but it's
an expression I tell myself,
I set my goals sky high, reach
for stars in the humid air
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
