Existence
Existence
Wind has returned to him,
a sun, granules of salt
There can again be new rain
on a planted field
and a flock of starlings
will re-circle to roost
before another storm
Our earth can hide
many things, even the bones
of a child
But never the tears
of a parent
(for the soul of Jacob Wetterling)
a sun, granules of salt
There can again be new rain
on a planted field
and a flock of starlings
will re-circle to roost
before another storm
Our earth can hide
many things, even the bones
of a child
But never the tears
of a parent
(for the soul of Jacob Wetterling)

I think the universe feels those tears in the deepest of realties. As a parent and grand parent I feel this poem with and the connection to the living universe in the imagery .How can men do harm to children? I just do not understand .

I struggle sometimes with damning someone to an eternal hell and meaning it. It's not even a matter of execution b/c if anything warrants it, it's a crime such as this.leafsailors ghost wrote:I think the universe feels those tears in the deepest of realties. Maybe we write about it b/c we don't understand. Or for justification. Who the hell knows why anybody does anything these days. Twenty seven years the guy made JW's family suffer. I, too, just do not understand.

Re: Existence (for the soul of JW)
Thanks for telling Judih to google his name. I read the story after you suggested googling. The poem becomes much more effective knowing the story. What a horrible incident. I cannot imagine what his parents must have gone through all those years.... and then when they finally found his remains. Powerful piece. Thanks for sharing it.
(Perhaps using his name instead of his initials in the title would be good

Children are sacred, and acts like this constitute sacrilege. It's bad enough for a parent to lose a child to natural or accidental means, but this act of monstrosity goes beyond simple crime. Thank you for posting this - it hits this particular parent's heart dead on.

Thanks, Doreen. Will indicate the full name...yes. Good idea.
The pervert went through the whole sad story in court today. There are no words to describe this kind of evil.

I've been reluctant to comment....i find it so disturbing I don't know what to say....but I have always felt, one aspect of poetry should be to speak about the unspeakable....not just poets, all artists....not saying it is the responsibility of each and every artist, but for some it is their calling ...to expose injustice and evil....whenever they can....'cause it takes a toll....
delicately handled.....thank you

Not sure about divine cloud formations, but I'm glad someone got a bit of comfort from this.
