the poet I once was

I roamed the alleys of eternity
like the halls of a forbidden library
I haunted the isles of books
and they in turn, haunted me
this is the agreement of the poet

the books open their pages to me
and the words spoke their secrets
and the letters opened their
eyes, I stood in the misty alleyway
and felt all the seeing words
looking at me through the poems of time

and I walked in the amusement park
under a full parchment moon
in the dead of night, i come to see
poems written on the silver sky
that appear through the gypsy scarves
of ragged clouds, I forget where I am
I'm transported to another land
I lose consciousness


I walked in the day on the main drag
and recognized poets reading the sidewalk
through the soles of their feet
the cat has been let out of the bag, man
the whole world is crossing the street
