when poets did not compete with Hollywood

Post by revolutionR » December 2nd, 2016, 10:38 pm

we grew up with Hollywood
before we were flooded with
the silver screen, poetry held
our imaginations

perhaps some films are visual poetry
but mostly they are meant to replace
the poetic element, with contrived
effect, and easy to program us
that is why it's called TV programs

before the moving picture show
the flickering light from the projector
in the movie theater when we were kids
before we sat in dark rooms and watched
the junk they filled our heads with
while we ate popcorn and candy

before that there were wonderful poets
that wrote about the celestial heavens
and they wrote about beauty of trees
about grand promenades through the Autumn
of time, when the leaves turn golden
in the ancient sun, and poems were like leaves
that fell from the trees of history

but even though I grew up with Hollywood movie
I found the poets that moved me to write my own
I don't have special effects or computer graphics
I just close my eyes and see words on a horizon
that exists somewhere in a distant memory
that once existed in an eternal childhood, when light
shone through huge night star windows of the universe
