My umbrella was sabotaged by wind
I felt betrayed
I am so thankful
It's drop to your knees enlightened joy
However briefly
I have been restored in so many ways to light
Took me a long time to get here
Liking people again- small increments
I was saturated in marriages and dreams of love
Romance it turns out sends me into an altered state
Keeping it together
But I still wander the early hours with the dog

As it turns out sex drugs and rock and roll, is not what we thought it was
but then nothing is what we thought it was, for awhile there we danced
with the light show and the loud amplifiers, because it felt like a tribe.
I remember going to the midnight show to see Performance
I also remember putting on eye shadow, what did I know
my girl friend at the time had been a junkie in New York
when she was fifteen, we thought we were some kinda glam
with our thrift store furs on, like the Psychedelic furs.
I wrote my best poet when I was living with that crazy redhead Irish girl.
she liked to draw pictures of junkies sitting in big stuffed chairs
she liked Billy Holiday and Alice Cooper. And she read mystery novels.
And I was in love with her, what did I know, it was 1971. and i was
reading Surrealism and Painting, by Andre' Breton. I thought I was
going to be a great surrealist poet. It was nineteen seventy one.

Does ordinary things privately
One of my husbands told me
" the most important sex organ is the mind"
I had babies with him
It seemed certain words unlocked places inside
His words were not empty
But " greatness" comes at a cost-
He had a liver transplant
And when he got mad he was enraged and very convincing
Once he slapped a guy in the face in my honor
Greatness - sometimes means you forget another part of your life
Like children and wives...
because greatness means I should not need you
That is like torture for any writer
Loving people in the 1970 s was fucking easy!

You kinda remind me a little of a girl, of a woman I knew in the late sixties
kinda the way you express yourself, and that laugh. But I don't no if she
ever got married, I'm not sure that last time I saw her, we were in our thirties.
She was a Virgo like me, and she was the one that turned me on to astrology

We do come from the same area--I don't think- that being " married" is a smooth ride- but there are things I miss about it- but what I find interesting--is the way one person will be so intriguing and magnetically charged- and another- nothing@all

I met my wife in Santa Cruz when I was 26, she was the light of my life
she passed away in 2011 from a strange illness, she was from L.a. area
she was a flower child star seed, we were very close, each others best
friend, twin flame. About a year after Meryl passed I met a beautiful
African American woman that was half my age, I will not go into detail
but she took advantage of me, and it has taken its toll no me.All I can say
is I needed this like a need a hole in my head, And she was educated
and wrote poetry.
