believing in peace

Post by saw » April 25th, 2017, 5:12 pm

this hunger doesn't involve the stomach
but it's a lack of nourishment just the same
this uneasiness I feel to do more, it's this
k.d. lang-kind-of constant craving

she ruminates in my chest
like the magnet she sings about
and I think to myself, she is on to something...
souls are involuntarily drawn to the truth

and there is a part of us that knows
we have to feed raw meat to that monkey,
that simian carnivore karma transfused
into our human blood, we, will always be apes

despite our lofty language and our science
we still have erectile dysfunction & beyond the perfection
of the placement of the knife, the fork, the spoon
we are still animals that kill each other

we have no moral authority over our cousins 'cause
beyond the Oscars, the Grammies, and the Nobel Prizes
we still bite, scratch, murder
and throw our shit

my friend Jimmy A. had this squirrel monkey in Hialeah Fla.
I hated that dangerous little fucker, he was pure beast
and he tore me up more than once, so I took to carrying
a baseball bat when I visited, 'cause that monkey

was having no part of that domestication thing....
I never understood why Jimmy kept that damn thing
why he pretended he actually had this cute little pet,
maybe we are all pretenders believing in peace

but I just can't help myself
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

even the vegan meditators among us have to conquer primate brain.
the challenge is there. we have a choice.

Not holding out much hope for "hope," but you never know...
