another bulb is gone

another bulb refuses to light
her short filament-and-glass-life has gone out
and I know what this means,
it means that I am older, I search
the pantry for a replacement

the pantry is as bare as mother Hubbard's cupboard
darkness wins again, at least for
the moment, do I wait until tomorrow
to see again, do i switch a light bulb
from a lamp in another room

or do I take a walk under the street lights
write a poem on the corner, do I just slip back
into my comfy chair ( easy-chair-happy )...thinking
may all my future problems be of this magnitude
I close my eyes

now it's dark either way, despite my choices
and i think maybe this is a gift to aid in my dreams
I drift back to my litany of birthdays
but can only remember a handful, I make a mental note,
All bulbs eventually burn out

is this just too depressing ?.....or is it just acknowledging the inevitable, that maybe should not be given any attention....was wondering.....all came to me and to be, in a real live moment the other night.... ....of course in the end it doesn't matter...ha ha
