In her mind : there was more than that
There was clutter in that mind
She wanted to be loved
Didn’t even understand what that meant
Just wanted warmth and laughter
See
How was she going to know love?
Passion screamed at her
She could only imagine a painless world
The diligence was deafening
She tried to shut out the insanity
Insulation and defenses built her a fort-
She wanted to go somewhere else
Anywhere
Now she spoke in dry wit and bitterness
She dreamed of cigarettes and toxic substances
None of which would touch her lips
She couldn’t think about anything but being a grandmother
A better person
All that stuff she loved
Was useless in the face of that kind of divine
