US army recalling musicians for stop-loss funeralzzzzzzz

As you know, this is an ongoing concern. While we are welcoming new recruits into the Vets for Peace, we also are engaged in an active counter-recruiting effort as a way to challenge the current state of affairs. Please click and listen to the Daily Show clip about Army musicians.....Jimbo

Daily Show: Mess O' Potamia: Stop Loss -- You should read the fine print before you join the military as a euphonium player.

can't listen here at work, but i get the gist

this has happened before...when naval warfare started getting technical, the royal navy, believing musicians possessed the necessary brain skills for understanding things like trajectories and aiming corrections, recruited massive numbers of musicians, then turned them into gunners after the fact

Take some time, like 1 minute and listen.

Nothing wrong with John Phillips Sousa, mind you.
But does anybody you or I know want to be buried at Arlington?

Not for this debacle, the trouble is that there was no imagination about how to go about it other than this mess, and a whole socialised compoment of american culture is co-dependent upon it.
