Skipping Forests to Play Together

Post by the mingo » February 26th, 2019, 3:21 pm

the days came and went
was there when the cold got colder
all the cigarettes I smoked
someone offered to read me a book
said it would only take six and a half hours
i said another time because
there were no tired women then
my time spent half in rooms
and half outside driving whenever I could
passing horse ranches on the way to the sea
dark women in my car
I've forgotten how that happened
I think it had something to do with Eddie
a shipmate from Jamaica
I do remember the one in the back seat
was the one I wanted
I would have turned myself inside out
we had weed
walked on the beach
laughed on the edge
of the Pacific
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

slacker reporting for reading.
good one. shades of j.alfred prufrock, on the road, and i need to wake up before i continue.
(one more thing - any poem that takes me and keeps me through a story is a good one)

aah the memories of younger days....how could we not have a fondness for hose times when all you describe was possible...and more...the combinations of people in and out of the automobile, the life....I imagine this was southern California....I have a zillion stories from Key West...the navy days....and beyond....everything was fresh....we pushed the needle.....pedal to the floor.... 8)

Thx judih - I'm almost embarrassed for bumping my poem but this place can use a good kick in the ass from time-to-time. I'm old now with no time to screw around. * 8) * and thx for the comment ~

I imagine this was southern California
Northern California, saw, my second ship, homeported out of Oakland in San Francisco - my first ship was homeported out of Long Beach but I was never an LA kind of guy - when I got to San Francisco I went Yeah! Wow! There was so much ... energy in the place, of all kinds - street art, freaksters, all sorts of shit going on - and then there was the Pacific Coast Highway stretching north all the way to Oregon and not all crowded mucked up road like LA but rural and wild for the most part and I drove it and drove it never tiring of it -
everything was fresh....we pushed the needle.....pedal to the floor.... 8)
- Hell yeah, Mongolia!
Thx for the read and comment - enjoyed 8)

bump it, change it, live it again.
make us hear you. There's a lot of noise around here and a good extra shout is often required to re-focus my attention.
waking up to the last day of february - may it be peaceful.

February's finally over? About time. I got almost four foot of snow and been snowing all day. Had enough of winter. I'm gonna shout at it too.

Always good to read your work. “I would have turned myself inside out”. Great line. Thx for the memory trip.
