the journey from the zoo
fraught with dangerous animals
not even Paul Simon could characterize
swindlers with agendas, I met quite a few
in the parks among the water fountains
the organ grinders were monkeys wearing wigs
and I wore a red fez and danced around on strings
went to work every day like it was important
and would never ever say it was all bad,
I have these three starlit children
they always put sparkles in my head
and sprinkles on my donuts, even when
the drunken ferret was slithering into my sock drawer
and so it goes, we cut the cake, drink some mimosas
watch the garters fly
recently I was reacquainted with an early love
with all the same stories, adult kids are all doing well
she and I are cohabiting ....unobtrusively......without the bells
it's exciting.......it's peaceful........it's fun.........
and the wild animals have run off in all directions
and all that remains is love
escaping the zoo

Re: escaping the zoo
I guess you never quite escape the zoo, though sometimes... nice to get to those places of sparkle on the monkey train, as mingo puts it. It was never all bad...
Re: escaping the zoo
yeah man....a little sparkle on the monkey train brightens any day.......peace, love and understanding as elvis costello quipped.....eking out a little joy
