On-line Play Improv - Sign up here!
Doreen's been suggesting getting together to improvise an online play.
Could be a trip.
in my experience, way back in my old life in the old country (canada), improv always depended on the who involved - their state of mind, electrical sensitivity to the others on stage, and the current price of showing up on time.
A little group feel first to get that ensemble mood (theatre exercises like passing the object, tossing an imaginary ball, sharing a sentence) and then when feeling the other, we'd begin to build the plot.
Could be an interesting experiment!
Time zoning would be all important. And a time limit. Say an hour.
(own thread for this, rather than part of the scroll AMayZing jam thread)

on-line play improv
Play Jam
Talking about a theatrical word jam
Characters meet at a designated time
in a setting (that could change, morph or dangle)
Situation to be decided
We could work it in a number of ways.
Put topics in a hat and pick one
Put character names in a hat and pick one
Put settings in a hat and pick one (or two, etc)
We could pre-decide these matters to give us time to get into our roles, or we could suddenly announce them just before jam time.
Who wants to play?
and
the all-important,
when?
What time of day are you most 'on'. Quote est and we'll see what happens.
Me? i am most awake at about 10 a.m or 8 p.m.
making it 3 a.m. est or 1:00 p.m. est.
Does that fit with anyone else's biorhythms?

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this, judih. I love the idea!
In case anybody missed the original post about this, here's a copy of what I said in another thread.
I going to move this thread to General Discussions since I think more people go to that board.
We have our regular Word Jam here next Friday, May 27th - Sat, May 28th.
Maybe we could do an online play in June.
How about a Saturday in June? Saturday at 1PM - 3PM EST? Would that work?
Who wants to be in the play?
Let's sign up on this thread, OK?
Then, once we have enough commitments, we can start a new thread to talk about theme, setting, and character names.
Online playwriting improv!!!
This could be a lot of fun!
I'm committed.
(or I should be anyway... lol

I've got another idea for a different type of word jam.... What do you all think of this?
A scenerio... we play characters... we assign character names and roles in advance, then meet at certain time online to write a play together.
A week ahead of time, we create a setting and character names and people sign up in advance and then show up to write their lines in the play and we interact spontaneously during the scenes... Similar to the Who's Line Is It Anyway? Show with Drew Carey.
Like this....
Setting: A bar in an old run down hotel.
Situation: News comes on the radio. The bank down the street has just been robbed. (or any other scenario)
Characters
A doctor
A whore
A businessman
A senator
An axe murderer
A gypsy
A magician
Two mystics
A policeman
A gambler
Whaddya think? Would something like that be fun? hmmmm?
Who knows what type of storyline we'd come up with!
Just an idea.

I like the concept.
For me it would have to dangle.
I want to play the moral hooker who knows her chosen profession is wrong wrong wrong but is so addicted to sex she's paying the john's now.....and not getting many takers....ah life it is tres amusing!!!!!!
But seriously, I ask anyone who will listen....where is enthusiasm?...is it dead and gone? I love enthusiasm, I am enthused by enthusiasm and yet, and yet, I don't see it's face very often.
People have lives and they dabble in many things. I have a semi life and dabble in very little. I will dabble here.....but I long for enthusiasm.
ps: Doreen and judih have enthusiasm.....I like to look at their faces.

Allen Ginsberg eh?

I wanna play Dylan....Bobbyo....Bobbyo Dylan....
Fabio's wiser poetic brother. I don't think I'm cool enough tho....not sure I can pull off that aloof-genius-after-a-year-long-bender look that BD's got going on!
'Course I'll need to cut my hair, tousle up some curliques, get me a dark suit and
but I may be up for the task. oooooo I'm getting enthused.
We'll play our favorite poetical characters gathered at our favorite coffeeing hole....Tim Hortons, or for you Americanos....Krispy Kremes....
judih? Krispy Bagels?
....well I digress...but it is all about location location location....

Yes, this could work!!!!
Am I making any sense?

This is great!
A cast of characters is being formed!
Let's do this.... Let's write settings and situations... After we have several ideas for scenarios, I'll make a poll and we'll vote on which one we want to use first. If this works and we all enjoy it, we can use the other suggestions later.
For instance ... the one I made up when I first posted this idea.
Setting: A bar in an old run down hotel.
Situation: News comes on the radio. The bank down the street has just been robbed.
So, add your ideas to this thread for a setting and situation.
After we select the setting and situation, we'll commit to our character roles.
How does Saturday, June 18th sound?
Anybody else want to join in? We'll announce it as an Online Improv Play and do it like a show ...
All actors should try to invite at least 3 friends to come and watch so we can fill the seats. LOL!

LOL!
yeah.... I think I've heard that before.... hahahaha
ummm... seriously, we tried to incorporate the 3 Friend Rule during our first Cabaradio show because it was rental space and we needed to fill the seats to sell enough tickets so we didn't go broke.
Every poet, stand-up comic, musician, singer and dancer was supposed to bring 3 friends. Had that happened, we would have filled the theater (including the audience who actually showed up from poster and newspaper ads.)
But ahhhh..... what did the performers say when we suggested they bring 3 friends?
You guessed it... They said
3 friends? hmmm...that could be tricky....
heheh
