Today's in the evening of the new year 5781. So, it's usual to say Here's to a good year - L'shana tova!
Not a 'happy new year' which rings like an impossibly naive blessing - but a good year. Good is good enough.
So to all of us, Good new year!

Back at you from the Republic of Tejas
grandnieceTejas is the Spanish spelling of a Caddo word taysha, which means "friend" or "ally". In the 17th century the Spanish knew the westernmost Caddo peoples as "the great kingdom of Tejas" and the name lived on to become the name of the 28th state of the United States—Texas.
