Oranges Poranges

Post by balsa » May 27th, 2005, 2:22 pm

Orange bothers me.
It is not only the word itself--
after all it doesn't rhyme.
Oh-raa-nn-geh sounds pushy
just like the color.
Its loudness bothers me.
Orange is the color of emergency
of alert and alarm, of dying trees,
of silly great pumpkins
only to be squashed
in goopy splats on asphalt.

But on second thought
or should I say on second sight,
don't I harbor a secret attraction to orange?
Halloween and the combo of black.
The tiny spurting mists of a tangerine skin.
The cool sweet bright of an opened melon.
The deep flare red orange of florescent cones
and surfer dude beach attire.

I look in my bathroom sanctuary,
thinking the cool blues and aquas
color my world and there they are:
orange soap, grapefruit scented,
orange shampoo, citrus scented,
even orange toothpaste, orange flavored.
Orange bothers me, or do I
bother orange?
The way is to get out of the way of the way.

oops, it's by mark rothko

abstract expressionist of the fifties, NYC
has a chapel inside rice university, houston,
the rothko chapel

search on yahoo images under any two lolors and "by rothko" and you will get many of his paintings, color schemes that invoke meditative poses.
like for instance, search for "yellow and green by rothko"
http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/i ... 1&ei=UTF-8 pops up and there are a number of stunning paintings there.

I love Rothko and didn't recognize it. Thanks for posting it. And taking the trouble to respond to my post.

Do you like orange?

yeah, it's an interesting color.
naranja "naranHa!" it sounds in spanish
orange juice
jugo de naranja

orange is a warm color yet it cools real easy
next to a cold blue
downright frigid,

mondrian composition red blue yellow

well here the red-orange is powerful enough
yet its warmth makes the dark blue feel real cool!
