The mass-man considers himself perfect and already has ideas on everything. As a result, he has lost the ability to listen. as elsewhere in Ortega’s text, an idealistic desire to strive for truth and human perfection is set against the unreasonable and staunch insistence by the mass-man to assert an existence not worth asserting. In the political realm this unreason expresses itself in the repression of dissenting thought, speech, and opinion. Similarly, the unreason of the mass-man can be executed by a power other than government, namely by the crowd.

I'd go to youtube. Check out Dan Ariely. He says it better than anyone and with considerable laid-back humour. When you see him, you'll wonder why this handsome guy has a face one half bizarre. He was wounded, seriously, came out of it and continued with added oomph. Listen to him, himself.
