once there was this song
actually a plethora of anthems
that could always raise the dead
they stood on guard ready to roll
in a little corner of his chest
but the hammer and the anvil
no longer ring true
I search some nights for a replacement
or even better
a restoration, but nothing seems to fill
the hole
there were melodies once like medicine
harmonies like balms for the forehead
notes that could pick up a broken body
or a throbbing head
and recalibrate the funk,
today I am lost, a seeker
looking for a substitute, a song
a memory
a way to ease down into my recliner
stolen medication
stolen medication
the death of empathy is the birth of barbarism

Re: stolen medication
Today, a seeker.
Tomorrow, a seeker.
Yesterday, a seeker.
Always a seeker.
Tomorrow, a seeker.
Yesterday, a seeker.
Always a seeker.
