The Table

Post by saw » October 1st, 2023, 9:30 am

the voice inside my head
surprises me at times with gifts,
and it can be so utterly original
I've learned to pay attention

clues to understanding significant patterns
come from a place I know nothing about
but they very much seem intended for only me,
they are philosophical phrases I have never heard

I know I should repeat them aloud as mantras
over and over and over again
until one day when unsuspectedly I can say
Aha....this is that missing puzzle piece

from the rectangular grid lying on the kitchen table
haha, all along I thought I'd been ripped off
by the manufacturers through a terrible omission
in packaging......But, I never gave up

I didn't really use that table there much anyway
the death of empathy is the birth of barbarism

thought I'd bought a defective under-counter light
because it flickered whenever I jostled the cord -
turns out I hadn't plugged it in securely enough...

thought my credit card might have been hacked -
just forgot about the MathType software I'd bought...

thought I'd lost my car keys -
'til I checked the pocket of my raincoat...

better to be vigilant & wrong
than blissfully complacent, I guess
