dating question

Post by Traveller13 » June 7th, 2005, 10:13 pm

just making sure of something:

when I was a kid, I noticed teenage couples on american tv series going on about 3-month anniversaries, or monthly anniversaries (usually her being fussy with him because he forgot), and I don't understand the celebration system.

when you're a teenager dating another teenager in the US, are you supposed to do anniversaries every year, or every 3 months, or every month, or what? are multiples of 3 more important than the other months? or is it only a tv program thing?

also, what exactly does "going steady" mean? can you officially have a meaningful relation with someone without "going steady"?
when you say "I love you" before having gone steady, is it considered rude? or is it a tv program thing too?

I've always wanted to know that kinda stuff, but american tv-serial dating rules seem really complicated.

American TV...not even going to touch that

3 months is more important than four months if you want it to be or if you decide to become captive to, uh, media- inspired or concocted pop-cultural traditions...

3 months is more important that the one month mark for the same reasons...

whatever you want, friend.

what do you think?

What's rude or not is all relative to individuals and values and whatnot, I'd say.

what's _____ or not _____ is equally all relative to who's involved in the decision making process.

Hey! it's the all encompassing Theory of Relativity! no. I don't know.

Truly. I don't know. I just suspect. or surmise. or think that I think I know.

dating, going steady, being with someone, eh....all, once again, by personal definition

and then I'm thinking "oh yeah, in order to make my true love official, I most certainly will need to go and get hitched in an official ceremony, in an official church of God, all officially recognized by the unversal all knowing entities AKA the state."

PFFFT!!

Well, ok. That's one way of looking at it...
Everything is surreal and i'm still not sure which decision I'll make.

yeah, I agree with you.

I was just wondering how close those programs were to reality. Apparently, they're not. Good, I think. lol.

When it comes to love I think the best is not to think.

Thanks for the clarification.
