that a handful of heartless egomaniacs
have instigated in a small amount of time

but folks still sing happy birthday
and mow their lawns and pick veggies
from their gardens, still go to the movies
and to see live musicals, and dance at parties

this is living
this is the big fuck you to the meanies
this is not the same as digging a hole
and inserting your head, not the same as cowering

this is collective appreciation of all the good things
before us, this is demonstrating the things we love
so as not to collapse into a quagmire of desperation
we must reject hopelessness, we must going on living
