3 gigs of Music.... gone.... :(

Post by Doreen Peri » June 23rd, 2005, 9:21 pm

It's gone!

blues, jazz, rock, alternative, folk, classical, obscure stuff i'll never find again...

I had an extensive ecclectic music collection.... I had multiple playlists... I had soooooo much music......

I could have pushed "go" and it would have played for 3 straight days, at least... without repeating a song....

it's all gone.

I'm gonna cry.

send me a hanky.

dammit

I recently lost 3 gigs of my own music. As in the music I make. Irreplaceable takes lost forever

'course, that was 3 gigs of .wav files, much larger than mp3, so a smaller number of files... but still 3 gigs

I'm sorry to hear this, Mars.... yeah wav files are a lot bigger.... mine were mp3s... not my music... the music of real musicians... LOL!

I'm laughing but not... i'm soooo upset... it took me 5 years to accumulate that music... some is replaceable... but some were obscure recordings which i'll probably never find again...

and i'm feeling guilty because the world is fucked up and there are way more important things than this but i'm still devastated about it...

hey, well, there's a lesson here somewhere.... it's about loss... about change... about the fragility of life... about death... about how fleeting and insecure everything that exists is...

i'll just have to make more music myself and live in a fantasy world that the all the world's problems will be solved and everything will be ok...

Hiya Dor,

My heart goes out for you, I've gone through that same thing twice, thousands of songs, poooof! gone without a trace...both were crashes, one end of costing me about $300 to repair...my entire hard drive fried itself...and when i took it into the computer shop, they told me of a class action suit that was launched against the manufacturers because they intentionally used biodegradble parts for the drive so it melted itself every two years or so...and my luck would have it, I was about two months two late to file into the suit....and I hardly think the price of a new hard drive is worth battling for in court :( So yeah, I feel your pain...any songs in particular you were looking for, maybe I have some of them, I keep a pretty ecclectic selection....ranging from old versions of "Dinah" , "Perfidia" (have a wicked harmonic one by Jerry Murad) parisian cafe accordian songs, to oldies, punk and modern pop music.

I used to have this one version of "How High the Moon" it was soooooooo beautiful -- sung by Pat Suzuki ....very slow and mellow with almost a lazy samba'ish beat in the background. It was on the first computer crash and have never been able to find it since. My heart is heavy with sadness...

Right now I'm in oldies mode, I've been downloading like a mad man....although the fifties and sixties were before my time, I was raised on my mom's old 45's...Mitch Ryder, Percy Sledge, Sam & Dave, The Beatles, The Moody Blues and so on....right now I'm on a T. Rex kick....can't get enough of it.

Anyways, sorry for your loss, really sucks to say the least, but then again, we are pirates so when our ship sinks and our bounty wiggles through the water till it hits a golden cloak of sand, should anyone really shed a tear for us? lol

good lesson here.
(another one, lord help me)

burn baby burn.

download and burn it.
keep those favorites on a disc.

how often i've been waiting for that one last song to download and then pffffftttt, there went my hard drive.

music will return.
even though my download program has been doing me wrong - won't even log me on.

might have to get on my mule and ride into tel aviv to the 3rd ear to buy the real thing.

Ach! What a bummer.
Like losing a library of all the books you love or something.

I don't download music at all....I listen to the links offered here and in other places but i've just never gotten into downloading it.
But it sure sounds like a labor of love, lost.
Guess you'll just have to make music yourself!
Now there's a swell alternative!
