Yesterday's topic..

Post by mnaz » October 3rd, 2004, 7:28 am

Once upon a time, imagination and reality passed through the same front door on their way to lunch. And then they hashed out their differences... and then they set out into deserts which could not tell the difference between the two of them, like a shape-shifting vehicle flowing out over cracked, hot earth, through boiling, wavering reflection, flying arrow-straight toward something which might not exist, like the first ship setting out across the flat-earth ocean toward a dropoff into outer space.

The simplicity of it is exquisite.

Those places are equal parts motion and myth.... Sit atop a rattlesnake porch in late afternoon and observe a filmy horizon; one which, if penetrated, might prove to be a fluid abstraction, beating reality at its own game, or at least holding it at arm's length for awhile.

Claim the lowest point of the desert floor as your own. Drink six shots of whiskey and scribble timeless thoughts about a woman, to be thrown away tomorrow at the nearest motel. They won't find you here. That's the whole point of it. Crank the music as high as it will go and wander out into a parched desert gale, noting its
incongruent warm welcome while you generate erratic orbits around a dome light and recite entire scenes from a Sergio Leone flick until the orbits converge toward another shot.

Scene over.

once upon a time in the west....the rattle snake slid along the desert floor as me and my brothers imaginations soared out on that bonneville salt flat back in '73......ya know mnaz it takes a reality to spawn an imagination...I could not draw a line between the 2 yesterday....everything cannot be either black or white ....drawing the line taking a side......as Whitmasn said I am man , I am multitudes.....it is this taking of sides that infuriates me.....even more so when artists do it......I look at life from both sides now....................wired

Imagination is my sustenance.
It is my bread, my air, my inhalation.
I imagine entire worlds into creation.

Who would choose to witness death
or to accept lies and confusion
when you have the option
to live an illusion?

If anyone tries to replace my elation
with something akin to real,
I'll just use my imagination
to substitute real with ideal.

mnaz, this piece is a prize... a keeper, not be be casually tossed into the trash of the nearest cheap motel. but then again, that is only my own opining slithering thru the wild grasses of of the high chihuahuan desert... but i do relate. :)

wired... living with your Libra, it is incumbent on you to "look at both sides now" !! how well i know...

and Dor', i must side with your imagination, as that i find to be the font of my own creativity, for why else am i here..? yee hah!

[see what you started, mnaz! hah!]

yeah.... one of those moods last night....

thanks, Mark...... Yeah, the desert plays fast and loose with imagination and reality.... that endless supply of horizons. It makes no attempt to hide itself from view, though it never is quite what it seems....

thanks Cecil..... A broken heart originally led me into the desert (true story, I confess)....

doreen....thanx for your reply...... without imagination, how can there be wonder? And without wonder, what will sustain?... Reality doesn't take enough of its allotted vacations, if you ask me....
