Confidence art.

Post by Rat Bag » July 26th, 2005, 5:32 am

why is it that confidence art, unlike the other arts, is such an undiscussed topic?

almost taboo almost even, perhaps, given the sinister conotations carried by the label con-artist.

but I know enough about sales and persuation and have watched enough non-verbal communication to know that confidence art is very real and very utilised, however an unanalysed topic in general philosophical circles, I dare say. Who's studying mind control? The mind controlers. The advertisers. The players.

I think that maybe many of the worlds problems could be...

I've had enough writing for now.

WHen you are a con-artist you don't want anyone to know--I am a telemarketer and if I got in to details it would get me in shit with the fbi perhaps, perhaps not--but that is why...

even though I am sure that was a joke...mind control? shit man, i don't think hypnotic suggestion really works. just ring a bell and watch me bark.

A telemarketter, Axander? No shit? Me too!

Well, no wonder you rub some people the wrong way.

Thanks for the links, Jim. Took a quick look but having trouble branching the connection.

Oh well.

Story Time

I once took a job as a driver. I had a new car and I met a guy named Buddy. He knew that I was a wheel man and he asked me to drive him around on his 'business' calls.

He offered to pay me X amount of dollars to do this.

The first day, I picked him up and we started weaving our way around the streets of Dallas. He would suddenly point to a business and say, 'Pull in here." He would go in for about twenty minutes and come back with a wad of cash.

The second day I said to him, "This is one of the few crimes that they refer to as an art." After that, I was not on salary anymore, I got a cut.

This guy was amazing. He could talk you out of your underwear. He would literally walk into some strange place and find the guy with money in his pocket and proceed to talk him out of it. They would give it to him of their own accord. Yes, he was an artist.

telemarketing
inbound vs outbound
I just could not do the outbound, calling people and trying to slam their long distance services. Merciless.
No I work at home on the inbound
You need a broadband connection
I answer the calls for the infomercials you see on tv.
That is sad too, but at least they called me. My conscience is a little less troubled. Reminds me of God Bless You Mr Rosewater. When he answers the phone at the Rosewater foundation. “Hello this is Jack may I help you?” Calls in the night from the desperate. Looking for a cure for cancer or a magic exercise machine that will make them desirable. “a sexy upper body” or take the jiggle out of their buns. I finally got on with a office supply company. Not too many ethical issues selling paper clips.

LR maybe the greatest artist of them all is now president of The United Snakes.
