Free speech and yet-unpercieved vibes.
Free speech and yet-unpercieved vibes.
What is this place like,... to you?
I wouldn't dream of running down Anyother Community but I've noticed something here at S8. The fact that people can say whatever they want to say seems to make the communication here particularly honest and open. Ever Dor (hope you don't mind me using you as an example, Dor) comes across as a completely different person here than she does at Another Community (which has strict limitations on perceptual output). I'm not completely sure yet, but I think I like the here-Dor much better that the there-Dor. You seem like you are much truer to yourself here, than there.
So I've noticed this. But I've also noticed that the free speech granted here can and no doubt does allow for nastiness, though that seems to be curbed somewhat.
So, as I'm new here, I want to ask: What is this place like, to you?
Do you find that free speech can lead to nastiness?
Do you percieve hostile vibes, or loving, as a byproduct of this free speech? Or both, no doubt, but feel free to elaborate.
As I am new, like I said, I'm trying to work out the vibe, so these following questions may seem strange, but they are in fact earnest:
Does this place, with it's free speech and mystical intent, tend to attract 'weirdos' moreso than a more moderated forum?
Do you feel that you are almost a completely different person at S8 than you might be in a more moderated forum?
Are you truer to yourself here, or there?
Or are you just you regardless of the environment in which you exist?
(That last is a trick question as anyone who says that the environment doesn't significantly shape them is not being honest as far as I'm concerned, but I could be wrong. Maybe I just haven't reached a state where I am unaffected by my environment [I must add here that some people, like Judih -- hope you don't mind me using you as an example, Judih -- seems like exactly the same person here and there] But then again, or perhaps as a result of 'where I am right now', I still contend that environment shapes us all).

I "met" most of the writers here at LitKicks. The first two people I travelled to meet were Lrod and Doreen. I was blown away and completely inspired by them. I visit other sites, but mainly I just read and post a few poems. This sight is where I like to pick peoples brains and vent my own. I am an absolute fan of Mtmyd. I have been intriqued by his writing since LitKicks, I totally dig the haiku and Sunday streams. Lrod's stories from his past always inspire me to keep penning my down, as insignificant as they may seem at the time. I have also learned more about politics than I ever could from any news channel just by reading all of the political talk at this site. I guess I enjoy this site because I feel like I belong.
And it's not just Lrod and Cecil, but I'm not gonna sit here and blow sunshine up everyones ass. The fact is, I am a fan of quite a few people here. I have travelled quite a fuckin bit in the last three years and many times I have been saved mentally just from paying five dollars for an hour in an internet cafe and reading these peoples words. I can't wait to meet everyone. Don't laugh........
I just might be visiting you next.

It is the only game on the net for me friend from down underSo, as I'm new here, I want to ask: What is this place like, to you?
That other place you mentioned of the perpetual care.
I may be the guy that brought the doors down there. I got deleted probably twenty times (no sh*t) but I know it wasn’t me. I was just a minor annoyance.
This thing about nastiness and free speech, when you talk about Dor, you got to think of LR once in a while. The luckiest man alive. Be-ing the black hearted honest pirate that he is it is hard to think anything is going on here which is not business as usual, some young edgy writer puts something on creative that some one takes offence to and it gets personal, gets misunderstood and it turns into a pissing contest. Someone thinks he has the right to be blligerent because a young write is playing with the voices in his head. I don’t think it is all that mystical except I like haiku a hell of a lot, and that is not spiritual at all, I been reading Madame Blavatsky Baboon the people that bought the nude/new age to america
I think this place is more about word play, createtivity, singing, music, art, for art’s sake, I like Clay and LR’s business model what ever that is.
Welcome aboard mateSo, as I'm new here, I want to ask: What is this place like, to you?
I hope you have as much fun here as I have.
Does this place, with it's free speech and mystical intent, tend to attract 'weirdos' moreso than a more moderated forum?
Short answerDo you feel that you are almost a completely different person at S8 than you might be in a more moderated forum?
Are you truer to yourself here, or there?
Or are you just you regardless of the environment in which you exist?
I am a stranger to myself, I have voices that I am trying to develop here into characters, I have some vague idea of doing some html and linking across certain strings to create a post for creative, I live in such a noisy in real time I am going crazy in three quarter time.
Going to just wing it. Spontaneous gibberish,
Try for an edit, html my biggest problem, so many scattered text boxes looking for a summation, Sigma the sum of an infinite series of words. Panta brought up the subject of how Americans pronounce tear and year the same, she native german speaker, I just wondered howl, how and howl are pronounced down under.
yeah I deleted that reference to judih, because she is such a divine poet, nothing important, I am the worst sort of Jew, I got deleted at litkicks for doing that, but the situation is so Desperate, when someone speaks of the Holy Land, the hairs on the back of my neck prickle, I was just trying to get her attentionhope you don't mind me using you as an example, Judih –

Hiya RatBaggy
Or should I call you Ratzo? *winky*
(I loved that role Dustin Hoffman played in Midnight Cowboy... )
I hope you get lots of replies to this (or a few, anyway, 'cause there's not a whole lotta people who come here like at Another Community) .... why? Because I'd like some answers, too! Yes! I need answers to these questions you've posed!
But since you mentioned the Open Dor policy here at S8 (are you S8ed yet, btw?,) and addressed my online personality presence as a two-faced schizoid, I figure I'll go first. LOL
See, thing is, I'm the same me Here as I am There and Everywhere else, but you're probably right that environments are different and do effect people's behavior to a degree, though, I never really noticed it with me.
Except for these things which I can tell you which are quite true....
First off, I can say FUCK here if I want or SHIT and I don't say those words just to be dramatic, but I do like to say them when they naturally flow off the tongue, which makes it easier to be me and not only that, I can post my music which might be a lousy cover of some song and I'm not gonna kick myself off of here for doing it because, why not? Life is short. Everybody does covers and why should I be left out of everybody, y'know?
Now, over There, I feel much more free to post my poetry and rambling because over There, it's like it's Air Conditioned or something... What I mean is, the Air is Clean and nobody's gonna tell me I'm trying to dominate my own board because it's not my board! That doesn't make any sense. It has nothing to do with Air Conditioning or anything. I just wanted to be clever like you are.
But it's true. Seriously. I really do feel more comfortable over there posting my own work. I don't like to see my name on here too much flaunting my lousy literary attempts because I'm afraid people would say, "That damn Dor, she's like hogging her own board with her garbage and this is nothing but a freaking blog" (but they COULD say "fucking blog" if they wanted to) so I feel sorta stifled here since because I created the board, I'm in this position of being an "Administrator" which makes me look like a "cop" in some internet circles, so I took that designation off of my profile because I don't wanna be an authority figure.
I just wanted to create a place where people could post their thoughts and ideas and talk about the arts and post their artistic endeavors and such like that. But sometimes I don't feel as much as a part of it as I'd like to be because of all the stuff I just said.
Soooo.... if you see a personality difference, you probably see a more free and open personality in the Alternate Cosmos .... would that be true? *sigh*.... Hey, I donno what you perceive but I think one of the coolest things in the world is when people try to sincerely get into other people's heads and find out about their perception and why they think the way they do and this, my friend, is one of the most powerful aspects of my take on you. Here, There, and Everywhere, I assume... you want to know.... you want to find out what people think and why they think it. You don't second guess people. You give them a chance to speak and articulate your questions clearly, attempting to get to the crux of the matter, whatever the matter at hand might be.
Now... to answer your questions... lemme see... hmmm.... OK... well, some of us here have known each other for a long time because we met at yet again Another Community (only not that one) so you might perceive that we have known each other for a while. No wait. That didn't answer any of your questions.
Free Speech. Ok. Let's talk about free speech. Thing is, this is not an unmoderated board. There isn't really free speech here. LOL!... I mean you CAN say whatever you want to a certain degree, but there are limitations. We don't have a government like some places do. We don't have rules and laws and punishments. We only have one guiding principal. (no, I mean principle. lol... I always get those two confused. PrinciPAL (he's the head of the school.) PrinciPLE... that's an guideline or standard.
And the guideline or standard here is that we have to be respectful of each other and even though we can say, "That's FUCKED," we really don't like it when people say, "You're FUCKED and you're writing's a piece of SHIT and I'd like to FUCK your mother." See? There's a difference.
Oh, yeah, and we've had our bouts (in our short period of time online... we've only been here for one year)... with a few difficult times.... but for the most part, I think everybody's reasonably comfortable. Others will have to tell you how they feel about it.
What is this place like to me? It's my home page when I hit my browser. I come here every day. But hell, how could I not come home?
We're glad you're here. Hope you stick around.

You might enjoy e-dog's Anti-Academy in the Studio section, btw.

GypsyJoker, you mention the pissin contests.......In the real physical world that we are forced to live in everyday, I am the first to swing when someone speaks to me the way some of these cats write to each other. Thats what I love about this site. Watching these posts and laughing at the fact that fighting exists in a world of text. I have never gotten involved in these posts. I really, really, really want to, most of the time, but I realize how silly it is. But that's what so great about this site and its creators. They fully believe in the idea of free FUCKING speech. ALL is tolerated and allowed to be read. It's a great study in phsycology. I once had a discussion with Clay about the arsenal of text that one is allowed to "own" when they birth a site such as this. I'll tell you honestly, and this goes to Ratbag as well. Whatever you write here, whatever pieces of your inside self you lay onto the screen and give to this site.....it is in fantastic, worthy hands. So get loose and
