I was looking for a few ideas for my next tattoo and I came across this sweet little symbol..... http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/41a/41a36.html

....
indeed. I didn't like that part of it either. I'm leaning toward the Gemini sign, the two pillars. Or the sign for communication. Haven't drcided which one yet. I think I'm gonna put it on the back of my neck.

.....
yes. Gemini, latin word for communication. I am also a Dragon in the chinese zodiac, the only mythological creature. Hey....Cecil.....
You're an arteest. Why not design me "back of the neck size" tattoo that somehow incorporates the two pillars of gemini (roman numeral 2) and the dragon? I've always had this idea of two dragon bodies wrapping up the pillars...........what do you think?
I'll even put a small C.B.L. on the bottom.

I know a guy who has a swastika tatoo on his arm, it has a red circle around it and a red line through it. like no nazis I suppose. Lord I hope he never goes to prison, my worst nightmare. I don't imagine Jews have much of a support group there. I just had my social security number tatooed on my forehead, as a upc barcode.
.....
I've know afew assholes who have racist symbols on them. My moron cousin got the German iron cross on his forearm. I hope that idiot has to do a few months. I can't stand that shit. I have the anarchy symbol over my heart, but thats just a statement saying I am my own government. A few people look at me sideways when I have my shirt off. I love to show it off in police presence.

Notes and history: Castor and Pollux, the Heavenly Twins, lies high above Orion on the zodiac band between Cancer and Taurus. The outline of the constellation is nearly a perfect rectangle, each long side of the rectangle representing one of the Twins. The star Castor, alpha Gemini, positioned on the Northern (west) head and Pollux, and beta Gemini, on the southern (east) head. [NPS p.82]. Pollux is a little brighter than Castor and is orange and reddish in color. These stars lie four and a half degrees from each other. The ecliptic divides them in the middle, their heads are above and their feet just touch the Milky Way. [CAO p.74]. The Twins were placed in the sky by Jove (Jupiter), in reward for their brotherly love so strongly manifested while on earth, as in the verses of Manilius: 'Tender Gemini in strict embrace, Stand close and smiling in each other's Face' and were figured as Two Boys, or Young Men, drawn exactly alike. [SLM p.224].
The Sumerians and the Babylonians called this constellation "the great twins," but did not name the stars. The Greeks continued to do the same and called the two bright stars Kastor and Polydeukes, which were changed to their actual Latin names; Castor and Pollux. [SLM].
Castor's father, Tyndareus, was a king of Sparta and his wife Leda was daughter of Thestius. Jupiter (Zeus) visited Leda on her wedding night in the guise of a swan (see Cygnus), from which union were born Pollux and Helen. The same night, however, Leda also lay with her own husband, Tyndareus, by whom she became the mother of Castor and Kiytamnestra. So Castor and Pollux were brothers, but Pollux was immortal whereas Castor was mortal. Pollux's sister was the beautiful Helen, who would become Queen of Sparta (Helen of Troy), and whose abduction by Paris would lead to the Trojan War. The two brothers Castor (the Horseman) and Pollux (the Boxer) were raised together, and they were identical; no one could tell them apart. Castor was a great horseman and fighter, and one of his pupils was Heracles.
The Twins were warlike heroes who were especially honored by seafaring people. They were considered to be the protectors of sailors and were supposed to rid the high seas of buccaneers and pirates. Fond of adventure, they joined Jason's expedition, the Argonauts, aboard the Argo to the Black Sea in search of the Golden Fleece and were the protectors of the ship during its journey to Colchis. It was said that, when they got on board, two flames leapt up from the mast (Sailors still see this as St. Elmo's fire). In the sky, Castor and Pollux are always seen in a line directly above the constellations that form Argo Navis, the ship Argo. [NPS p.82].
The ship had to stop at the entrance to the King Amycus' realm. Amycus, a brutal man, never let visitors pass through his land without challenging them to a boxing match. He allowed no one to decline, and nobody survived. The brothers were known for their athletic ability. Pollux was the first Argonaut to step forward. As soon as the chance presented, he drove his fist into Amycus' temple, crushing the skull and killing the King.
The twins spent their time raiding cattle and abducting young women. During one such cattle raid a cousin (Idas) became enraged at Castor and killed him. Zeus threw a thunderbolt at Idas, killing him.
Since Pollux was the son of Zeus, he was immortal. But Pollux mourned over his brother's loss to such a point that he wanted to follow Castor into Hades. Pollux beseeched Jupiter to let him die too; as the Twins were inseparable, the one could not live without the other. But an immortal cannot die. Zeus was so stricken by Pollux's love for his brother, he allowed them both to share Hades and Olympus, on alternate days. Jupiter allowed Pollux to spend one day among the gods and the other in Hades, the Underworld, with his beloved brother.
This movement is reflected clearly in the daily rise and fall of Castor and Pollux. When Castor sets in the west, Pollux follows him immediately afterwards and, vice versa, when Castor rises in the east Pollux is immediately by his side. While on earth these Twins were sons of Leda, becoming, after their transfer to the sky, Geminum Astrum. Individually they were Castor and Pollux.
Gemini is also depicted as two pretty little cherubim, "harmoniously united in their charming duality" According to Georges Muchery "they are smilingly planning to do subtle and refined things, holding the shaft of sly irony, and vibrating lyre of the Arts, while yet retaining the rod of intellectual and sacred science".
Another symbol was 'a Pile of Bricks', referring to the building of the first city and the fratricidal brothers - the Romulus and Remus of Roman legend (see below); although thus with a very different character from that generally assigned to our Heavenly Twins. The Sumerian name for the month May-June, when the sun was in Gemini - signified "Bricks". [SLM p.225].
Homer wrote that they were Founders of Thebes, and men of mighty name. Plutarch called them, Lords, the Two Gods of Sparta; Theodoretus, the Familiar Gods, the Brother Gods. In India they always were prominent as Aqvini, the Ashwins, the Horsemen, popularly, they were Kithuna, the Boy and Girl. [SLM].
Some Jewish traditions ascribed them to the tribe of Benjamin, although claimed them for Simeon and Levi jointly, the Brethren. Christians saw here the Twin Sons of Rebecca, or David and Jonathan; while other Christians said that the stars together represented Saint James the Greater; or, to go back to the beginning of things, Adam and Eve. The Age of Gemini, was 6,000 to 8,000 years ago, some people believe that was when Adam and Eve lived. [SLM].
In 496 BC, during the Roman war with Latium, the Twins appeared, leading the Roman cavalry to victory. That evening, two youths, both dressed in purple, were seen watering their white horses at a fountain in the Forum, and a huge temple in their honor was built without delay, although up until then they had not been Roman gods. They stood for Life and Death in Rome.
In classical days the constellation was often symbolized by two stars over a ship; and having been appointed by Jove (Jupiter) as guardians of Rome, they naturally appeared on all the early silver coinage of the republic from about 269 BCE, generally figured as two young men on horseback, with oval caps, surmounted by stars, showing the halves of the egg-shell from which they issued at birth.
For their efficient aid in protecting their fellow Argonauts in the storm that had nearly overwhelmed the Argo (ship), the Gemini Twins were considered by the Greeks, and even more by the Romans, as propitious to mariners, Ovid writing in the Fasti: "A welcome couple to a vexed barge". and "So Leda's twins, bright-shining, at their beck. Oft have delivered stricken barks from wreck". In The Acts of the Apostles, xxviii, II, we read that the Twin Brothers were the "sign," or figurehead, of the ship in which Saint Paul and his companions embarked after the eventful voyage that had ended in ship wreck on Malta. The Greek Alexandria, and Ostia, the harbor of Rome, specially being under the tutelage of the Twins, who were often represented on either side of the bows of vessels owned in those ports [SLM p.225]. St Elmo’s fire is a luminous region of electrical discharge that appears during stormy weather around a narrow pointed object, such as a church spire or the mast of a ship, also called corposant Named after St Elmo (died AD 303), patron saint of sailors [Encarta]. Pliny described it at length in the Historia Naturalis, and allusions to it are frequent in all literature; the idea being that a double light, called Castor and Pollux, was favorable to the mariner. The Gemini Twins were invoked by the Greeks and Romans in war, as well as in storm. [SLM].
Chinese astrologers asserted that if this constellation were invaded by Mars, war and a poor harvest would ensue. Gemini was known to Chinese as Yin Yang, the Two Principles, which they show as a male/female pair of twins. In the early Chinese zodiac this constellation was the 'Ape'. [SLM].
Astrologers assigned to this constellation guardianship over human hands, arms, and shoulders; it portended intense devotion, genius, largeness of mind, goodness, and liberality. The constellation has been peculiarly connected with the fortunes of the south of England and the City of London. The Great Plague and fire of 1665 and 1666 occurred when this constellation was in the Ascendant. The building of the London Bridge and other events of importance to the city were begun when the correlative planets were in the constellation. With Virgo it was considered the House of Mercury and a fortunate sign, ruling over America, Flanders, Lombardy, Sardinia, Armenia, Lower Egypt, Brabant, and Marseilles; and, in ancient days, over the Euxine Sea and the river Ganges. Assigned to the care of Aquilo, the North Wind, the Greek Boreas that came from the north one third east.

Yab - I don't do dragons. No, I don't have a damn thing against dragons,as a matter of fact I dig dragons, i just that I don't draw 'em. I have done some cool serpents and a dy-know-might salamander... but dragons... nyet.
Chinese zodiac dragon, eh? Cool. You know that dragons, snakes and monkeys are compatible? Each is four years apart from the other - like monkey (+4) snake (+4) dragon (+4) back to monkey... all born on even years.
