It is the most quaint little cafe located in the heart of Astorias downtown. The menu is all about huge salads with everything from soy noodles ta strawberies, a very ecclectic choice of quasidillas and awsome sandwiches. (I.E. the "gobbler" this sandwich is served on grilled fochaccia bread wich is covered in a pesto cream cheese. between the bread lyes spinich, turkey, bay shrimp, provolone, tomatoe, and a small sliver of bacon) I love this job. Cooking rules. It's very fast. No time for petty thoughts or wasted minutes. I attempted working the grill today. I have really only created all the salads and prepared the quasidillas up until today. What a fuckin great time. I only lasted an hour and a half before Chris could see I had just about dug us into a nine order hole. We both agreed I did fine until the rush hit. I went back doing the salds and such, and Chris stepped up and took over like a captain at the helm. This place cooks all thier lunches and dinners on a two burner gas stove and a 2ftX3ft grill. Everything is made on premises. I go into work four hours before we open to prepare and make everything from scratch. salad dressings, soups, croutons, desserts, specials, EVERYTHING! It's awesome. I can make all my own dressings now. I can't wait to master that fucking grill. The grill is the key to money. It takes a serious fucking knowledge of the menu to be able to handle that lunch rush. I have to be able to see ahead and know what should start cooking now in order for everything to come out at the same time and be equally as hot. I love the pressure. Chris goes back to college in September, so I have a month to get this shit down. I know I'll get it. I can't believe I typed all this. I was just going to write a few lines about the interior of the place and describe how it would be perfect for a west coast Cabaradio. (no room for dancers though)So maybe not a Cabaradio, but a Studio Eight word sharing event.
The owner is a pretty hip guy in his early forties who writes songs but admits he can't really play any instruments. Anyway.......my fingers hurt.
