litkicks staff exposes herself as knucklehead

Post by firsty » August 11th, 2005, 12:52 pm

http://jamelah.net/firsty.html

damn - it just came down. well, i've posted a screenshot below. click on it for a bigger version.

this is a live page (for however long it stays up) that LINKS TO MY HOMEPAGE. my homepage, which LINKS TO THE LITKICKS BOOK. this is how one of litkicks staff treats its writers who are trying to promote their book. all the bob holmans and nprs and local newspapers who have plugged jamelah's blog or the litkicks book - and now this is how she's linking to a site which is also trying to plug the same book - the book that contains writing by these writers she published but so obviously hates.

i'm posting this not in anger or spite. frankly, i dont care what too many people think of me - stopped worrying about that a while ago.

i'm posting this because 1. i know i'd never get it thru the censors at lk, 2. i feel it deserves to be seen.

one of the conceits by litkicks staff, and by this i mean, in general, jamelah, is that staff decisions on what gets posted are based upon literary/editorial/community needs. underlying that is something that more than one person has seen to be a pretty transparent disdain for some writers. the reason for the disdain isnt always clear, but its existence has been obvious to the writers, if not to the rest of the staff.

litkicks puts on a pretty face, but underneath is something like jealousy or just meanness that overwhelms good intentions. this is why litkicks has, in many people's opinions, become irrelevent - recycling the same questions and ideas over and over again. "other" thinkers, whether it be in politics, literature or just attitude, are dismissed, usually because a conflict is created between staff and writer that leads to staff making decisions about posts based ostensibly about the writing when, actually, the decisions are about the writer. so the writing is lost because someone doesnt like someone else.

until now, i had no proof of this, now i do. for me, litkicks is, unfortunately, pretty dead. has been for some time. since signing off from the site, however, i've read with levi and caryn, and felt good about it. i have nothing against levi or caryn - altho it would have been nice had levi believed me 6 months ago when my writing was being needlessly fucked around with - but, even then it was obvious who was doing the fucking around, and i never really held it against him, even tho we disagreed pretty strongly.

no matter - i dont have time for a constant forum anymore these days, my writing is taking much of my time, and thats a better thing. even tho i dont come around even here anymore, it's good to have it as a forum for this, and i appreciate that.

i would imagine that litkicks is dead for many here. for some, maybe not. for many, perhaps, seeing something like this isnt going to mean anything. but if it does give one person who was banned from that site some degree of satisfaction to see that, indeed, the bullshit reasons were really just a mask for some unexplained personal hatred, thats enough. i think it deserves to be put out there - particularly for those of you who still feel that litkicks gets a bad rap from trolls, or always treated you nice (as if thats enough), or that the suspicions of this hatred were just paranoia.

cheers,

firsty & pel

Hi, firsty -

The link if not available according to my click ... 'tis gone.

Did you create that page you've provided? and Jamelah used it without your okay..? And she used it to help promote the lk book..? Am I reading this right?

I feel the Haiku, Poetry, boards on litkicks are a national treasure. I would like it to survive if for no other reason.

... so she did that page about you without your input?!?! She called you "McWhinypants" and 'fat, bald jerk' and referred to Pel as a blond horseface..??? It all sounds so... slanderous... I don't get it.

excuse my slowness here, but i'm trying to digest this very strange happening, and i find it to be quite a mouthful of weirdness...

I don't know got so much weird karma there, the only issue I see is copyright, it made me want to check out your website, but i am not sure I am getting you, do think she made you sound bad? or she wrong for not checking it out with you first. I know nothing of the ins and outs of slander as confused as cecil if not more so

ok she hacked your profile, geez i see what happened now that is different. I think i under stand you now.

(((shaking my head in disbelief and confusion))) I feel bad not only for you and Pel but for her blog post. it makes so very little sense to me, and i do have a sense of humor, btw. but that! humorless and vengeful is all i see in it.

i'd say i'm glad you ran into it, but then again... ???? too-fucking-weird x 2.

nice seeing you about and give a hug and howdy to Pel for me, eh?

(((still shaking my head....)))

just though it was interesting made me want to check you out
your web site and read your stuff, I don't think she created any weird negative energy in my mind, no assumptions about what I will find, a negative attitude, just made me interested in reading you

actually her page there makes me feel better because levi and i had a bit of a throwdown over it - nothing we cant deal with and like i said, i've seen him since and all is well, tho i'm done with the site. it's good to show levi that i wasnt crazy about believing that she was singling me out for stupid changes/edits to my writing. it was such a small thing at the time but there had been other hate vibes in the past that were always shrugged off with that dismissive snarkiness so famous in the old days. this is proof that it WAS personal, tho for what, i have no idea, and i never had any bad feelings towards anyone, making it that much stranger. it's like a person who's constantly on you at work for no reason and you're sure they hate you but you cant prove it and then you find out that they wrote a fake memo with personal and ridiculous insults. i feel more like, "see? she does hate me and WAS letting it affect her work."

things are good, man. i'm a good way thru a novel that might have legs. pel too. the kids are great. good to see you.

I got crazy mikes sense of humor i am sure you both are right, she is wicked. She is young, and with all the people on litkics kissing up to her is it a wonder that she got this ego trip going, a product of the litkick group think, I see it pop up on studio eight some times so many litkick refugees here. Welcome aboard.

That is hard to figure out firsty, if I remember she enjoyed your poetry. Do you think just might have been a joke that was not funny? Do think you will suffer monetarily or artisticaly because of it? Sue her ass all over the place, that’s what I would do. She took it down faster than that mission accomplished banner came of off that air craft carrier.
