belly of the butterfly

Post by WIREMAN » August 25th, 2005, 5:15 pm

the wings of the moth
give me strength

the belly of the butterfly
allows me to love

The sound of children at play
The pure joy of being a thing called alive
Gives me the strength to carry on

There are three things which are too wonderful for me,
Yes four which I do not understand:
The way of an eagle in the air,
The way of a serpent on a rock,
The way of a ship in the midst of the sea
And the way of a man with a woman.

(because sometimes old art needs a new frame)

Butterfly cholesterol
and delicate porcelain swans—
so everything shines for the crows,
falling sweet on ignorant lips
that take this to be healthy love
which ultimately kills the heart.

Premises I build myself
on butterfly cornerstones fail
and shatter all porcelain grace.
You can’t make a home safe for me;
your wings rip as soon as they’re touched
and swoon sharp knives down on my veins.

Daylight rises with the crows,
collection of glittering waste
in piles of new glittering life.
New butterflies, new tempting swans—
and doubtless I’ll try them again
and hope my heart won’t die again.

children can see
butterlies are free
and emulate them
wish we could be
that free
to fly in love's skies.

A great one wireman
