Roving Word Jammers

Post by Doreen Peri » October 17th, 2004, 10:53 am

Hi all.

OK... earlier I mentioned that I had an idea about forming a roving word-jam troupe.

The idea is this... We'd like to get core group of 10-12 people who are interested in participating in regularly scheduled word jams on the net. We'd like to do the jams once a month.

We want to find 3 websites interesting in hosting these Word Jams and it's well on the way to happening. First, we have this website. Second, we have been welcomed at Arcanum Cafe 2x now and they have regular participants including Sierra and Wylde who are also members here. And third, I have been speaking to Thom at the Scroll and he is open to welcoming the Word Jams at his site and is talking to me about setting up a special spot for them.

What I envision is a roving troupe of writers who are dedicated to participating in these jams monthly. This way, we can go from site to site and the members of those sites will join in! I think this could be quite dynamic!

Everybody wins! The websites get to host a cyber-jam which brings writers to their sites, the writers get to connect with other writers who they may not have met before.... everybody gets inspired and some fine writing might come out of it!

I absolutely love the energy and electricity of these jams! They are incredible! Yesterday, we had another one at Arcanum and it was a blast!

Anyway, why would 10-12 people in the group work? Because it probably takes approx. 6 active writers online at the same time to bring the dynamic to this. And some might not be able to show up every time. So, if we get 10-12 who commit to participating as often as they can, then most likely we'll have at least 6 for every jam. If we do them once a month, that brings the jam to each of the 3 websites every 3 months, which I think is great timing for the sites!

I love collaboration and I think the idea of websites collaborating together for an effort like this is very cool!

I am jumping the gun somewhat, I must tell you, because I haven't brought this idea up about a roving word jam group to the other webmasters. I'm presenting it here first to see if any of you are interested in this. This way, if there is enough interest, when I go to talk to the other webmasters about this idea, I can say we have enough interested writers to make this work.

Soooo.... what do you all think? Does this interest you? Would you be willing to commit to a once-a-month word jam (whenever possible)?

Ohhhh... and... I'd like to give the word jam troupe a cool name, so if you have name ideas for this, throw them out here on this thread and then later, we'll put together a poll and vote on the name, ok?
