Next Word Jam at Studio Eight - poll - Nov 11-12

Post by Doreen Peri » October 31st, 2005, 2:50 pm

I was talking with judih about doing a special Jam next time at Studio Eight. The Jam will take place on the weekend of Nov 11 - 12 (maybe through the 13th).

I've posted a poll with several choices. If you could vote on your choice and then elaborate a little on this thread, we'd appreciate it.

#1- A Story Tag Jam- We all write a story together. No planning ahead. Just a spontaneous story. If you prefer poetry, perhaps, you could have the characters you create speak poetically. But the idea would be to write a story, not deciding on a plot in advance, not deciding on characters, not deciding on setting, etc., but just creating them as we go along and see where it takes us. An experimental collaborative internet project.

#2- A regular Word Jam with a specific theme only this time, instead of us making up the name and theme, you do it. Something special. If you choose this option, please suggest the name or theme you'd like.

#3- An Image-ination Jam with a specific theme only this time, instead of us making up the name and theme, you do it. Something special. If you choose this option, please suggest the name or theme you'd like.

We definitely want to do the Story Tag Jam some time, whether it be this coming time or not.

Plus, any ideas you post to this thread can be used, whether we use them this time or at a later date.

Thanks for voting and for your input!

Any additional ideas for Jams are welcome.

I was going to add a #4 but I think we'd need to prepare in advance for it because some people don't have digital software to edit images but one day, I think it would be cool to have an Image-ination Jam like this -

#4 - Collaborative Image-ination Digital Effects Jam - Someone posts an image to the thread. Others download that image and make digital changes to it.... turn it into artwork.... add lighting or contrast or colorization effects... combine the image with another image of their own, etc., then post it to the thread. There are free software applications for this so if you're interested in this type of event, you could prepare in advance by finding some free photo editing software at http://download.com - just search for "free photo editing" and see what you come up with. Then play with the software and see if this type of event interests you.

OK... so the poll is for #1, #2, or #3, this time.... All comments welcome, including comments about the #4 idea.

Thanks!

ten four
all for a story
a river of light flowing around the globe
voices in the night
a twenty five thousand mile stretch of highway
Zion at the next mile marker
just as we top the hill

my ten twenty is Wyoming
winter has come early
sleet and freezing rain
there he stands

in reality this is a drawing by jimboloco that I butchered when I cropped it. It is west texas, panhandle Armadillio and tumble weeds missing.

just a winter time coming old bones kind of achy feeling, but the memory of Wyoming winters makes me feel happy to be a winter yankee down in the valley of texas.

Thanks, all for your votes.... I haven't voted yet .... I'll wait 'til more votes come in, but I'm leaning toward the Story right now.

Here's an example of what we'd do during the future #4 idea.

I did some digital colorizing to jimboloco's drawing which gypsyjoker just posted and here's what I came up with...

Image

(Hope jimbo doesn't mind my playing with it for example's sake.... but you get the idea..... could be a fun future jam, huh?)

night vision in blue?

fun yes
sounds great,
I like the the combination

this one reminds me of a narrow two lane in New Mexico that I called the bunny rabbit trail...millions of bunnies jumping out of the brush, me stearing my a$$ off, missed everyone.

Just thinking out loud. The more I think about convoy as a theme the less I like it. Visions of a traffic jam of ten billion cars and trucks spewing out noxious fumes. But I have not gone off the them of momentum, moving. I like one where a story is woven around images. some post words some images. I have difficulty with visuals. I am blind in one eye and can't see out the other. But I would try to contribute what I can.

come to think of it why does it have to be either or. how about the combination plate of theme, image and colaborative story?

conversations among the the souls on board spaceship earth. moving passengers on a Ship Of Fools.

thinking about the windshield on jimboloco's truck. A POV OTR kind of thing
the hitch hiker is on the road
the driver is over the road

I suppose I am thinking about that Monopoly Board where we all picked our token, our avatar, those little metal thingies that we moved around the board. I always wanted the car.

I liked the car in the remake of Back To THe Future. THe one that had a Mr Fusion garbage to fuel gadget. You drop in some orange peels and away you go>>>>>>>>>

oh well when I got to go
there you go
another mindless ramble
aphasia runs in my family.
I just hope there will be enough hours in the day
I look forward to it , whatever format.

i propose a Word Jam on the topic:

why does a certain joker have a swastika on his/her personal image?
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.
