Take it easy goin' down, Mark.....It's all icy here in Asstown. havn't been paying much attention to the weather down south but that stretch through the Siskiyous prolly gonna be a bitch---I saw tv stuff about folks travelin' the east slope of the Cascades and through the passes had a rough slow go of it.

Huh?

I thought you said California, but you got as far as Bakersfield and swerved left?

Bakersfield sucks.

There used to be a standing joke in my family that whenever anybody got lost on a California freeway they'd end up in Bakersfield. Seems like all the freeway signs point to that city as a Mecca.

What's in Vegas? Don't answer that, you told me already, I think.

It's winter everywhere now, Mark. You can't escape it. It's winter in Vegas. It's winter in California. It's winter in Denver and it's winter in Vail. It's winter in Albuquerque too.

Hangin' out in Barstow, California.... (is that worse than Bakersfield?). Forecast: mostly sunny, high 68 degrees today, 72 degrees tomorrow...

I'm going out to do some desert-rattin'....

Nice hearing from y'all.

When I was a kid, my Dad took the entire family out west. We traveled for 2-1/2 months during the summer. We went out to Colorado from Maryland via the northern route then returned via the southern route. We camped our way across country. The only place we stayed for more than 3 days was Denver because my Dad was giving lectures at the University there. Otherwise, it was touring the scenic States. I'll never forget that trip. We didn't make it as far west as California and I've never been to California, but I have set foot in most all of the other states.

It's just been a long time since I traveled. My most recent trips were 3-1/2 years ago to go visit LR in Dallas, a trip to NYC three years ago where we met a few litkickers to do a show, then stayed a couple of days in the Catskills. I took a trip to Virginia Beach recently, too. But no other traveling for many years.

When I hear about people's travel adventures, I joke and say my idea of traveling is going to the 7-11. ;)

Anyway, all that to say that I truly enjoy reading your travelogues and viewing your photos. I look forward to your travels because I travel vicariously with you. I'm right there in your backpack. You just don't feel how heavy I am because I travel light. No baggage.

Enjoy your trip, Mark! Looking forward to reading about your adventures and viewing more photos!

took a long powerline road toward the 'Devil's Playground'.... a huge area of sand dunes in the Mojave Preserve.... but I wimped out when the road itself succumbed to deeper and deeper sand.
The elusive Devil's Playground..... very tricky to get to....

Yeah.... right now, a quick pass through Vegas, then back through Death Valley...

Later....

Siskiyous in winter :!: I wish I could find a emoticon for puckered up and grabbing the seat with both cheeks.

Happy motoring Mark.
