Nick Hornby

Post by singlemalt » January 11th, 2006, 10:41 am

so I'm reading about a boy by hornby. i'm 1/3 of the way done. what's the big deal with hornby? it's okay. but that's it. i mean, the book, so far, is kind of like chick-lit. not that there's anything wrong with chick lit, but what the hell?

anyone else have any thoughts on hornby?

i read a chick lit book, the sequel to that fat chick thing, that jones's diary whatever. good shittaking reading i guess.

i love that movie, "love, actually," it's kickass. i think there is a character in that for everyone to identify with, or love, or hate, or whatever. that was a very chick movie and i think i felt a little gay or something when that dude took his shirt off with the chick with the crazy brother. heh. not really. fuck YOU.

anyway, never read nick hornby. i think chuck p is bro lit, not chick lit. i think he's shallow. but hey i also love bukowski and apparently he couldnt write, according to the nytimes.

what was the question?
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.

the only real chick-lit i read was when i was in a writing workshop and the person who was running it had some pages for us to read. don't remember what it was, but it really wasn't half-bad.

and back to the chuckster. i think i may be losing my chucky chubby! i was kind of pissed off with haunted but i still love fight club.

i think of chuck as kind of like a girlfriend who is great to screw around with and a ton of fun. but i keep wondering. . . is she the right one?

back to Hornby -- don't bother. i don't get the excitement about him. About a Boy was fairly lame. no need to read him again.

next.

i'm reading "magical thinking" by augusten burroughs. funny but simple. simple but funny. i think we need a word to use instead of "but" and more complex than "and" that doesnt value the latter word over the former. more of a double arrow kind of word.

maybe you could go with "in addition to" or "with equal parts of" or "plus."

or maybe just stick with "and." that word has been around for awhile.
