Last night we sat down to watch a movie. We tried Eraserhead, but it was to ponderous. We gave it up in about 20 minutes and put on The School of Rock with Jack Black. I loved that movie. It was the story of my life. I don't know if you've seen it, but it's totally charming and funny and inspiring. Just what you want from a movie.
The magic in the story is how the main character lives out his dreams and in the process inspires and liberates his students. How many times have I taken a bunch of children (aka a rock and roll band) and by the simple process of allowing them to believe in themselves, gotten incredible performances?
This movie was absolutely true to the principles of What Rocks. Jaco Pastorias said one time (I don't know if this is apocryphal or not, but it sounds like something Jaco would say) "Music is about Attitude. You either have it or you don't. You can learn technique, but you can't learn Attitude. You have to bring that with you."
Anyway, if you haven't seen it, get it. And if you have, watch it again. IT ROCKS!!
THIS ROCKS!!
