Genesis 29:11

Post by joel » February 15th, 2006, 10:38 am

Alone. One light bulb lit in darkness proud—
sad yellow glow, sad afghan wrapped on cold
like prayer shawls rocked and swayed against Amen.
So be it. Hoarse and blue, what lyric verse
accompanies. And you: what counterpoint
do you provide to lone and sad and song?
When Leah I have wed and Rachel I
have loved, and seven years alone gone by—
why ought I faith in faith to come along?
One half a table set for two, the joint
all filled with smoky blues and nothing worse
than loneliness so apropos—again
alone. One light bulb lit an image old:
then Jacob Rachel kissed, and wept aloud.

Awwww, this is very sweetly poignant.

Some really lovely lines, this one, particularly, speaks loudly to me

"Alone. One light bulb lit in darkness proud-"

yup, "in darkness proud", I understand this.
