Just Grab A New Hoe
I was never one to worry about broken things
everything wears out in time if used well.
A product of a throw away society I guess.
I learned to make do or do without
hard times were familiar ground I plowed
and if the rocks broke the plow
I never fretted the loss, just grabbed a new hoe.
If the sun didn’t shine I figured I needed the rain.
When the storms came I never hid.
I waited until it passed, it always did.
Didn’t matter if the house blew down
I wasn’t one to stay long anyway.
I was never one to cry over soured milk
never cared for the taste of milk.
My glass half full was enough to get me by,
filled too full I always spilled it
and I never like to waste a drop of anything.
Growing up without makes you thrifty
so I’ll use it up or do without
and never throw it away
until there is nothing left.
I think this philosophy applies to life
I’ll use it up, wear it out
and above all
make do with less
and still be
richer than most.
