so now we're plagiarizing PHRASING?

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Harvard University sophomore promised to change her debut novel in future editions after acknowledging that she had unintentionally borrowed material from an author she deeply admired.

Kaavya Viswanathan's "How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life," published in March by Little, Brown and Company, was the first of a two-book deal reportedly worth six figures. But on Sunday, the Harvard Crimson cited seven passages that closely resemble the style and language of the novels of Megan McCafferty. (See story.)

"When I was in high school, I read and loved two wonderful novels by Megan McCafferty, 'Sloppy Firsts' and 'Second Helpings,' which spoke to me in a way few other books did. Recently, I was very surprised and upset to learn that there are similarities between some passages in my novel ... and passages in these books," Viswanathan, 19, said in a statement issued by her publisher.

She also apologized to McCafferty and "to any who feel they have been misled by these unintentional errors on my part."

"While the central stories of my book and hers are completely different, I wasn't aware of how much I may have internalized Ms. McCafferty's words. I am a huge fan of her work and can honestly say that any phrasing similarities between her works and mine were completely unintentional and unconscious," she said.
this is the literary news that we see on cnn front page headlines. this is a big problem. this is bullshit! this is what theyd do to "howl" today. ooo whitman, he stole from whitman, he stole from eliot. fuck who cares! this place is fucked.

someone has to do SOMETHING.

the mainstream media has no idea what literature is anymore. everything is stolen.
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.

i think you stole that idea from eliot. or was it f. scott fitzgerald?

this just in: stupid book copied other stupid book.

the whole idea of plagiarism is a silly school-marm notion combined which the sinister capitalism of intellectual property.

a brief history of american values: the founding fathers plagiarized british thinkers who plagiarized french thinkers who plagiarized latin and greek scholars who plagiarized hebrews and other greeks.

I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.

hey man, if you don't steal someone else's words, then you don't have to apologize when that other person gets pissed.

like my mamma always said "don't steal, bitch!"

she had a way with words, mom did.
