So, which is it, Scoot?

You resent the fact that people are reviewing the book in this thread?

Or perhaps you just dislike the content of the reviews?

Why the hell does it even matter that much?

I, for one, am interested in hearing what people have to say. Is that so terrible?

Oh right. If you say so. Here was the first post that turned the tone of the topic away from a friendly jive session.

Phony, egotistical, crass juvenile fun!
Yep, thass beat poetry according to Litkicks!
heh.
A real masterpiece it is I'm sure.
(I have to say though, what a waste of a great potential).

Then comes this...this....this...perebozo or whatever social disease he calls himself today and says:
perezoso wrote:The LK Book features the Knipster?? and the brilliance of MtyMind? Whoa, now there are some reasons to buy that gem. And plus the pic of Scoot, pre--re-hab?
NOT
From then on it was open season on Litkicks, Levi, anyone who was included in the book. Yet, I started it. Right. Get your head out of your ass, Spracklin, your ears, eyes and mouth are full of shit.

Had they read the book there wouldn't be any reason to call them on their so called "review". Since they state they don't have to read the book to know it's somehow unworthy or as was said:

"Phony, egotistical, crass juvenile fun! Yep, thass beat poetry according to Litkicks"

well, that hardly rates as a book review. If a professional reviewed a book they hadnt read, a show they hadn't seen or a musical presentation they hadn't heard, they would be considered complete bullshitters and would have a hard time ever regaining any credibility in their chosen field of interest.

Yes. Point taken.

I don't know, though.

I suppose it's just one of those collective, escalating things.
It sure doesn't seem to merit all the heat that's been generated
here, that's all.

This is why I don't much care for sarcastic humor when it's used on the internet. Take any one remark and some people will think it's funny, while others will take it as a deadly insult.

What am I supposed to think of this?

"Mizz Abb: $50 sez ya will. Send note when ya get yr kneepads darlin'."

Funny or insulting? Most of you would say it was funny ... so, OK, I guess it's funny ...

I'm not laughing, but who knew?

I'd just prefer we avoid sarcastic humor altogether, especially when discussing volatile subjects, such as the Litkicks book. That way, nobody's feelings get hurt and we don't end up in flamefests over nothing.

Cat- it was not funny. I was ... yes... demeaning and insulting.

What would you all like me to do?

Start deleting posts?

Do you want that?

Should I delete people? Should I make them disappear like other sites do?

Should I establish rules and hire moderators and make a forum where they take threads off the air like other sites do so they can make subjective decisions about posts?

Do you guys really want that?

I don't really want that and frankly, I have no time for it.

I want people to enjoy discussions and debates and BE NICE to each other!

Is that POSSIBLE?

I don't know whether it's possible or not...

I don't want to deal with these type of comments. At all.

At one site I have recently joined, they have a voting mechanism or something. They have entire threads set up which go pages and pages and pages where the group of members discusses posts and who one wants to delete and who another one doesn't.

Democratic? Yes.

Tiresome. YES!!!!!!!

My days on the internet may be numbered... But I've said this before.... who knows.

Any ideas of how we can help each other BE NICE!!!!?

Do you want censorship here?

If so...... who wants to take charge of it?

Who wants to be the decisionmaker as to what or who gets deleted?

Not me.

I need to write poetry instead.

Children, children

In reading this thread, I can't decide if I have walked into a kindergarten class or a first year law school debate.

Maybe everybody is getting antsy because the Thanksgiving/Christmas axis of emotional and family evil is upon us. Maybe it's post election blues. Maybe we are just a bunch of sensitive, emotional goofuses.

I like the book. It's a book. It exists. I'm sure Levi, Jamelah and Caryn worked hard on it. It's an artifact. It is evidence. I wish they could have published every post on LK, but you know how it is--logistics.

I might not have made the selections in exactly the same way, but I've done enough film work to know that a lot of good things hit the cutting room floor. My chapeau is off to LeviCo for following through with the project and producing a tangible product. It is what it is. I won't hold my breath each time I look at the NYT bestseller list. Poetry will forever be a labor of love.

LOL! "family evil is upon us" well said, L-Rod. Too true, too true.

Doreen -- I put that out as an example, not as a challenge to you to delete it. I don't expect anyone to babysit for my feelings on the internet. If I don't like posts then I go elsewhere. I am slowly, but surely, grasping the sarcasm quotient around here, and although I don't always find it funny, I don't go running for the kleenexes either.

But I see how this whole conversation has gotten out of line because a few people got a little crazy and started trading insults.

As for asking what YOU should do about it ... Gee, I don't know. This is your website, so I suppose you can do whatever you want, or do nothing. But bear in mind that there will be some people whose feelings will be hurt, some people who will leave, some people who will have different ideas and opposing opinions. You can't make everybody happy, so my suggestion is to just follow your own good conscience.

Joe, at Arcanum, pisses people off too. He has a strict censorship policy.

There isn't any magic solution to make the perfect website and people WILL disagree.

It's a form of stalking
That dude is a freak, Ab. He get's some deviant sexual thrill making remarks like that to women on the internet. I'm sure, like most misogynists, that in the real world he is afraid of women, but behind the anonymity of the net he feels he can degradate and control women by getting them to submit to the fantasy offer of money for fantasy sexual favor. Don't be alarmed though, he's done it to every chick on Litkicks at one time or another. If you've ever read any of his crappy stuff, it's all about the narrator ( him ) exercising power over various females who invariably are sex crazed actresses/waitresses/exotic dancers/pornstars/hookers who even if they weren't obssessed with money would do anything he asks.
Again, don't be afraid, it's not like he is capable of harming anyone let alone you. He is powerless except in his bent imagination.
In realilty he avoids contact with women-probably nervous as hell when he does have to interact on some level with them, and probably pees his pants if confronted or called on his crap in real life.

Scootertrash ... :) ... thanks for the vote of support. No, I am not freaked out. I've seen him do this countless times on FH and it's no biggie to me. I appreciate your protectiveness, but I have established my own opinions about our friend Perez ... let's just say I don't think he's always entirely responsible for what he says/does.

wow. I am so sorry for all of this.
Scooter, I am flattered you perceive me as a book reviewer. I wasn't reviewing the book though. Hardly. I dont' really know how you could say that. It seems extreme.
If I offended you I didn't mean to. But you really shouldn't have assumed my comments a book review. I think that was more your judgement. Maybe next time, before you start putting down a person's credibility, you could ask them in fact, if what you percieve them doing, is actually what they are doing.
That could save some time and bad feelings.
I've never been much into the scooter persona and i've made that very clear since way back in the litkicks days. I guess I made a judgement too, I thought that the scooter thing was a joke, because you are not serious most of the time.

You may go after me, for saying i was going to take a break and then reappearing here, I dunno.
You seem hot to put me down.
But if there's a doorway to peace we could go through, let's.
And remember, I'm not a book reviewer. I'm just some broad with an opinion. My intent was never to review the book, merely comment, and yeah, i'll cop to some sarcasm. I'm not perfect. But it wasn't meant to be so heavy man.
Have a good Thanksgiving.

Ahhhh. And back at you!
I never know really, if I'm any good or not. It just comes out. Lots of times as if it's not even me writing it....or some thing will come to mind out of nowhere, and I know, I'm to write about it. But I often think that my writing is too strong, too uh, I don't know how to describe it, just that sometimes after I write something I worry about it being too hard ass, or that it will bring someone reading it down. I figure I'm a better appreciator of poetry than anything else!. heh. So thank you both really.
It's funny too, I wasn't too affected really about not being included, just the usual temporary peer type angst. I even wondered why it didn't bother me more! But, when I saw the cover of the book, and disliked it so much, I figured that it was the goddess looking after me. I wouldn't want to be in that book. It just isn't a representation I want for my stuff.
You know, I never really connected with Levi, or the others in charge at lk's, and now I see why. We have really different basic styles.
Plus, I always tend to stay on the outside looking out of anything too organized. For little while, when I first joined litkicks a few years back, it wasn't so "organized". It got moreso as the time went on, and I retreated. The old "hold backer" in me as I call her, kicked in when the "authorities" arrived. Heh.
I sing awfully strong too. I've been told many times I'm too "strong".
I really don't mean to be a bummer about the book. I just think it could have been 100 percent better if it had been presented differently.
What do I know?
:D H
Lets take the two paragraphs quoted above, strip away the ersatz and count how many times Theda makes reference to herself, shall we?

I never... if I'm ... I know,... I'm to .... I often.. my writing .. I don't ... I write.. I worry .. I figure I'm a better.... I wasn't.. I even... me more!.. I saw... I figured... after me. I wouldn't want.. I want... I never .. I see...Plus, I always... I first.. I retreated.... in me as I call her...I sing awfully... I've been.. I'm too...I really... I just... I know?

Hmmm, looks like a mere 33 times. Her favorite subject clearly being "I"

So who is likely to be more self absorbed?

Hester?

Or a jumbo roll of Brawny Paper Towels?

I think you're a good egg, abcat. Admirably solid.

And curious to your opinion of this person-why you don't think he's entirely reponsible for his actions--psychological illness? brought on by??? do you see him as a victim of something in his early development?

I would really like to discuss this issue with someone who has observed this guy for awhile, as we have, and has an opinion, but perhaps off the list would be better. Let me ensure you of my complete confidentiality also. I may be reached at

Why do you have to do that, Scootertrash?

Why do you feel you have to slam her like that?

What PURPOSE does it have? I don't understand.

I talk in first person myself a LOT! I like to talk about what I think and how I feel. Lots of people do.

I just don't get it.

I would like to see everybody BE NICE to each other.

If you have some personal griefs with her, could you please use a chat program or email or pm instead of slamming her in public?

I'm going to remove your post.

I'll remove this one, too, after you've seen it.
