2 am. silence pounds
Zaar anxious and breathing
heavily on my right, I can't
sleep, sometimes there's
nothing you can do but pray.
Mom I got the package with
that Man from La Mancha
drawing by Duffy and Dad's
stories bout him and me,
you sounded so good on the
phone, yet we all know it's
a science that's not perfect
back operation causes blood'clot
on lung, Mom just be strong
just lie there and feel my breath
hear my drum beat all the way
cross the Appalacian range to
your Miami Valley home, think of
me smiling over you in yer bed
comforting the ache of reality
Mom don't slip into the dark, I
am here feeling the spark of
life, beating a healing mantra out
on these keys, with only a prayer
left asking the powers above please
