STUDIO EIGHT DOT TV NEWS

ONE

The Studio Eight dot TV store is now open with just a few items

>>Check out the new store!<<

The good news is, this is just the beginning. The idea of the store is to promote our community's talents... art, photography, & writing

If you start a Cafe Press store to sell your photography, artwork, poetry on posters, or anything else, we will promote it as part of the Studio Eight Gallery Marketplace (or some other title we have yet to think of).

Links to all the stores operated by Studio Eight members will be listed on the left hand column of the S8 store and we'll promote your stores in newsletters and other ways, also.

If you open your own store, you can set your prices to make a bit of cash. Hell, if you're gonna create artwork and write poetry and take photographs, etc., you might as well see if you can make a little money doing it, right? And even if none of us ever make a penny, the stores will be a great way to show off your talents.

You can create framed prints, posters, mousepads, journals and other items. I've created a few so you can see some of the products which are available. If you want to create your own store, go to http://cafepress.com and sign up. It's free. After you do it, send me the link and I'll add it to our store.

If you don't want to create your own store, you are very welcome to have some of your creations included in our store. If you choose to do that, send me the images you want to use in the store and I will create items from them or let me know if it's ok to use some of the banner photos or artwork you have previously contributed. If you contribute this way, it will be considered your contribution to the operation of this website. I will make sure you are credited for all contributions and will link back to your website.

We will appreciate any contributions of images, etc., since we sure could use a little help to offset operating costs.

Most of all though, this is going to be fun and will be a good way to promote each other's work!

TWO

I'm feeling rather ambitious as you might be able to tell.

During the next year, we will do the following

[1] Finally launch different sections of the main site using a Content Management system we have purchased and installed. This means some of you, if you are interested, will be able to log on to another area of the site and add your writings, poetry, images, etc. whenever you want.

[2]Let's make a book. Cafe Press has a really good print-on-demand system. There is no set up fee. So, let's figure out how we want to do this. I'm thinking a 100-150 page book publishing some of your poetry, short stories, short essays, and black & white artwork. What do you think? We can sell it in the new Studio Eight dot TV store. I'll do the layout.

[3] Let's make a CD. Cafe Press has a really good method of reproducing CDs and it doesn't look like it costs anything to set it up, though I have to research this more. Again, we can sell them in the store.

THREE

Ideas for Names & the Process for Publishing a Book & CD.

If you have any good ideas for names for "the store", "the book" and "the CD", let me know. Maybe we can set up a thread to vote on the names as we move forward to work on these projects.

We definitely will not be voting on content.

This is my site and I'm going to select it. HAHAHAHA! Just kidding. Maybe. ;)

Seriously, though, I don't know how to do this other than to ask for submissions like any other publisher and to pick and choose from the submissions. So that's probably how it will work unless you all have a better idea. Let me know.

It looks as though Cafe Press accepts mp3s for CD content and then converts them to a CD readable format. They also accept a master CD which they will copy. So, when we get to the point when we're ready to work on the CD, we'll have to figure it out.

For now, think along these lines...

Think of selecting 3-4 pieces to submit for the book which we can select from and think of making a recording or 2 of spoken word or music you will want to submit for the CD.

FOUR

The big question is.... Am I biting off more than we can chew? Am I a dreamer? I donno. Maybe.

All comments welcome.

All volunteers welcome.

All offers of help welcome.

Thank you!

I think this is amazing!
So much energy and compassion - new directions including us all.

What haven't you thought of? A Studio 8 store that welcomes other sibling stores or an inclusive Store that creates sellable items from our work and then considers the profits as contributions (if i understand that correctly, it's up to me to ask you to do the design work and then i offer you the proceeds). More than fair - my choice, your work, your store, your generousity and design skills...

The book sounds good. I'd love to see how you'd put it together - (again, your taste is pure Dor - & there is no other adjective that serves)

The CD would be superb as well. Firsty spoke about it, did he not? So there's already some good stuff to work with.

Our writings are all so different.
Each contributor could have a section.
Or the jams, or excerpts of the jams, could be included.

There's a ton of material already.
It's a huge notion, this notion of yours, but it's a project that adds some excitement to the humdrum life of 19 hour workdays, or thereabouts.

Let it roll.
Since anemone has spoken up, dare i suggest some anemone artwork? Please, a! Cartoons, paintings, photos! Yeah

Dear Doreen:

I simply A-Dor your ideas.

The book in particular is a good undertaking, but no doubt laborious. LitKicks, look out! Here we come.

I am willing to contribute-- something like a cartoon someone might want to put on a shirt or other item?

The only thing is, I won't do editing. I spent 33 years in a classroom and burning a candle lonely nights doing that. The old soldier doesn't want to pick up his rifle again.

If you have reasonable ideas about how I can contribute ( and you always have REASONABLE ideas, m'dear) simply e-mail me or send a PM here on the EstudiolaOcho . . . ( sorry, Arcadia . . .)

Only:

I will not handle money-- mine or anybody else's
and
I cannot "sell" anything . . .

(you know me)

Thank you for your continuing love and generosity toward us, dear Doreen,

--Z

and speaking of t's
cecil t's
jimboloco t's
c.plum t's (the name alone is a magnificent t)

"Saint Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store "

I got some sock puppets for sale

Beautiful idea
what's a poor brother to do when his sister is a princess.
but the idea of writing for money nauseates me.
How about a thrift store for losers like me
A very foggy place where the moon hides her face
take one leave one
barter
the diggers on lit

good idea
sorry about the stoned ramble
I just had chistmass in septemer
checked in to work and found out I had six more hours of freedom before I got to get back to the struggle for rum and coke a cola, working for the yankee dollar...

now that's an idea, StillT
if i ever get my puppet making self back in gear, i'd love to be the one to make your sock puppets
(not exactly socks, but some good foam rubber heads)

amazing - think of the youtube video flicks possible with such puppets.
maybe you should think of working on your voices

Speaking of voices, (writing of voices) I heard firsty's voice on the Cabaradio
He could put it in a can and sell it.
you should think of working on your voices
Good idea, since I can't punchuate myself out of a wet paper bag~ I should work on my voices.

thanks j

Wow! Cool!

I'm so glad you all are into these ideas!

When I found out that the Cafe Press site had a way to create books and CDs as well as put artistic images in prints and on products, I was elated. I knew people who have used that site before but I had never investigated it until yesterday morning and then I couldn't stop. I worked all day long setting up the initial store and selecting some initial designs just to see what it could do, while thinking about the endless possibilities for promoting all of your work.

Just like Zlatko, I couldn't handle getting into figuring out and divvying out funds, so anybody who wants to donate images to our store, it would be just like I said, judih, a donation.... but there would be credit and a link to your sites, and info about the images, etc.

It would be so cool if you guys also started your own stores so we could create a gallery of stores and that way if you'd have a spot to get profit from your images. If I design a product using your image for the S8 site, I could send you the image back which would be at proper resolution and sizing so you could insert it in your store for the same product. That kinda thing.

Yeah, Zlatko, would be great to have some cartoons for products! And other artwork too!

And yes, judih and panta, to include artwork by both of you in a book would be fantastic!

And judih's so right.. we have so many talented people here and an abundance of material if people are interested in promoting it in this way.

Frankly, I'm looking forward to buying my own products! lol!!! I've been thinking about figuring out a way to get some photos and art prints framed at a reasonable cost for quite a while now and never thought of this type of thing... I only thought of doing it locally. But this saves me time, money and if I like the products, hell, I'll hang 'em on my own walls and give them away to my friends and family as christmas and birthday gifts. It's the next best thing to a hand-made item.

And you all can do the same type of thing. Why not?

Man, those Cafe Press people must be doing well! I read on their site that they have like 2.5 million members. I only upped the base prices for this initial set-up a minimal amount... $1-3, so that's all we'd be making on them. The rest goes to Cafe Press... but what a great way to promote all of our talents, in my opinion!

Thanks, truckin... I'd love to hear firsty's voice on a CD, too!

And thanks to you, too, firsty, for your vote of confidence in these ideas!

Thank you ALL ... let's get to work, wanna?

First things first.

The quick logo I designed sucks.

If you like it, let me know. If you don't? I'm going to work on a new one to replace it. Just wanted to show something up there for now. I sorta like it. Then mostly, I sorta hate it. I'm so picky. Maybe I'd love it after I saw it over and over and felt branded. ;)

What should we do?

Start 2 threads, maybe? Orrrr... Should we do one project at a time?

A thread for submissions for the book (including b&w artwork) and another thread to discuss how to handle the CD project?

Orrrr.... should we create the CD as a companion to the book where pieces in the book are recited & put to music?

Should we do the book submissions privately by email?

ORRRR???? LOL

I have all these ideas but when it comes down to organizing how the process will be handled, I'm too excited thinking about DOING it, rather than figuring out HOW to do it...

which is where I need your help...

Do we need a committee?

I hear ya, Zlatko, about editing. I really don't want the job either, to be honest, though I would like to have a voice in the way the book is organized and set up and the type of material we include.

Maybe we need a committee of editors, submission reviewers, someone to look into getting an ISBN #, somebody to look into legal agreements like a simple statement of "one time rights" which we could offer... that type of thing.

I am so NOT experienced at any of this.

I can help select the material, work on promoting this idea to our members, ask for submissions, and use my expertise to typeset and layout the images on the pages plus get the files ready for printing and also design the cover. whew! lol..

The rest I will need help with.

I'm just thinking aloud.

We definitely don't want any material that goes more than 2 pages in a 5.5 x 8.5 book, I don't think, which limits us to short poetry & short fiction or essays. Let's have a variety. Do you agree?

Who wants to work with me to help figure out how to proceed?

All ideas welcome.

Thanks!

Thanks, Dave! Let's do it! yeah!

I should start another thread about this and just tell how we're going to do it maybe instead of asking for other people to help me figure it out?

would that make more sense?

i donno! ;)

we'll figure it out
i'm sure

whatever it will be will be a good experience... uniting the arts.. that's all... gnight

Maybe. Something like that. Do you think that will work? hmm.. maybe.. lol.. thanks, Dave!

I just made a new forum. We'll talk about the book project there. Maybe we'll post the submissions? What do you think? Gotta think about it. Sending them to me might work better.

Hope you're having a good Saturday, DAve!
