our eyes grew strained
our necks stiff
while we watched
for the rainbow
that we were promised
and that never
appeared

someone has forgotten
about us
we reasoned
and realized the silt
around us and the
alluvial filth
and the smell of
sludge and of
all those days of being
too close
to each other
in our vast
isolation

and we felt our salt-crusted faces
and the mud on our feet
and how our eyes stung
with sundried tears
and saline hopes

and we bowed our heads
and began to pray
for the cleansing rains
and the rising waves
once again

you are the
forgotten
melody
&
the
chance
she takes
when all
the rest
pretend
she does not
exsist out
side their heads
&
the tide
forgives
their open
drowning mouths
for what
it's worth
you
remind me
of rainbows
