This is a letter I just wrote to the St Pete Times. past midnite, insomnia from working in th jewel mine and general frustration with our local soppy rag. concerning the following editorial.
Subject: War without end September 29, 2006
Excuse me, why the passive reflective tone in this seemingly somewhat candid pensiveness? Why not just say it like it is, an assertive statement: the grim conclusions come as no surprise to anyone.
Where was this intelligence before the war started? Why did not you all suspect this even then?
Oh yes, the "brawlers" have become uncivil and need more tough debating as a standard baseline, where they needed to stand before this Iraq War debacle ever got started, no thanks to this paper’s careful postured style.
Excuse me again, you say it has inflamed the debate raging between Democrats and the administration. Mercy, this paper’s lack of assertiveness is no debate, no contention. Make an assertive statement like, “Bush is unable to offer candor on the Iraq War.” Oh it seems like this paper can’t write an assertive editorial. You want a “little straight talk” from a president who miss-led the American people into a tragedy of here-to-fore unrealized negative consequences.
A little straight talk? What benign innocuous nonsense. We need straight talk from our president and we are not getting it.
Well thank you for offering us your condolences, way too late, that this war “has taken its toll.” Why did this paper not speak out before this war happened?
We need an intentioned and forceful debate about clear exit strategies, including support from all of Iraq’s neighbors, who do not want to see jihadists succeed in the instability and quagmire started by America.
Now what does this benign moderate “centrist” (I don’t believe it) newspaper have to offer as a way through this mess? Show me something beyond platitudes.
