Boom
Boom.......boom.......boom
Got the boom boom banging
Booms
A metronome of crash and clang
Earth shakes
Computer vibrates
Boom .............. boom
What's goin on in the 'hood these days?
Can't sleep
Can't wake up
Boom boomin
Got the boom boomin goin on
Hey, don't read the paper
Oh god, check the paper
Boom
Next door
Boom boom over there
And on life goes
Off to work
Off to school
Boom
And on life breathes
Off to shower
Off to breathe
Boom
Don't read the paper

i took my puppy to the parade
rememberance day
bang bang snare drums
bang bang scare comes
and my puppy shakes and whines
and whines match fife corps ballads
no boom boom boom
the cannon was dragged backwards
only happy sounds of
war gone our way
winners look happy that the war went their way
losers look happy that the war might rise again and go their way
my puppy was scared by the noise of
replication footware in asphalt formations and
drum & fife of the republic and
fife & drum away away away down south and
all the happy laughing chappy clapping craddle-to-grave reenactors and
police sirens directing the celebration of remembering the war
brother against brother
supposedly civil
remembering a country turned in on itself to the death
sin used to be defined as turning in on one's self
happy happy bang bang to remember what happened
and to divert attention away from the boom boom boom still going on

boom boom
belief against belief
boom boom
can't get no relief
boom boom
put it in print
boom boom
black ink runs
boom boom
stop the shit
boom boom
runnin' outta room
boom boom
all outta tune

shots ring out in the alley
sometimes firecracker sound

When I was thirteen, I went to Israel on pilgrimage
I was in a crisis of faith--not of unbelief or disbelief, but of faith
and being in the holy land
being where the holy feet walked
being where the holy stories were told
being where the holy wars were fought
being where the holy was supposed to be at home
I went to the Western Wall
some find it holy as the last bit of the house of God
some find it holy as the place where God was tempted
some find it holy as the place where God had saved
some find it holy as the place where people pray
some find it holy for the prayers left behind
I wrote a prayer
it was no new song
"Please God send peace to the world"
new and necessary aren't necessarily the same
I meant it
it was holy
it was my personal Bar Mitzvah
it was my afirmation of baptism
it was my circumcision
it was holy
I am going to Israel again soon
I am going to pray again soon
I trust it will be holy
perhaps not quickly answered
perhaps never answered
faith has certainty--not assurance
I can't live in a crisis of faith
anymore than under a terror warning
anymore than under a bomb
anymore than under water or a temple of fallen stones
it's a mess
it's holy
maybe not good, but set aside
maybe not good, but set apart
holy

the holy land
set aside
for me and you
God is on our side
God is our real estate broker
Love it or leave
When will you learn
This is all holy land
this whole planet is holy land
we stand on holy ground
where ever we are.
Iraq is holy land
Iran is holy land
Syria is holy land
Alabama is holy land
