storm warnings
schools and offices closed
trains and ferries not running

the wind is already here

it is howling in sighs and gusts around the nightly house

I have capsized a couple sailboats in storms

Deming New Mexico a long time ago. Sitting in a truck stop diner and a old Indian sat down beside me and struck up a conversation. For no particular reason I can remember he said "if I was going to commit suicide I would get out on the interstate going a 100 mph and crash into a big truck."

And I said, "if I was going to commit suicide I would use a sailboat."

He was puzzled by my answer, he couldn't visualize suicide by sailboat. So I said, "you have never seen me sail."

Captain Joshua SLocum a hundred years ago sailed out of Nantuckette (?) in to dawns early rise and has not been heard from since.

Storm Worm hits computers around the world

Computer virus writers attacked thousands of computers on Friday using an unusually topical email citing raging European storms, a security company said.

The virus, which the company named "Storm Worm," was emailed to hundreds of thousands of addresses globally with the subject line "230 dead as storm batters Europe."

An attached file contained so-called malware that can infiltrate computer systems.

"What makes this exceptional is the timely nature of the attack," Mikko Hypponen, head of research at Finnish data security firm F-Secure (FSC1V.HE), told Reuters.

. Hypponen said thousands of computers, most in private use, had been affected.

He said most users would not notice the malware, or trojan, which creates a back door to the computer that can be exploited later to steal data or to use the computer to post spam.

thank you, folks -- i'm well. all's fine.

the storm wasn't as strong as expcected in our area -- coming from the north-west, it raged through the country diagonally, so our corner int he extreme south-west got kinda spared, even though even here, the wind was still roaring pretty fiercely in a way that you wouldn't dare to leave the house.

the north was affected pretty strongly, and so were the middle and the eastern parts. fortunately, the hurricane came in earlier and travelled faster than forecasted, so it reached the coast before high tide, which prevented the islands from being destroyed by another storm flood.

still, this night meant chaos not onlyin germany, but throughout europe.

here, the complete train system got stopped, and thousands of travellers got stuck in train stations throughout the country in the middle of the night, and for the whole night. no boats and ferries ran anymore. berlin's new main train staion got evacuated, because huge and heavy parts of the building came crashing down. thousands of trees crashed on roads, houses, train tracks. the east was without electricity for hours (some parts, for two days). house got destroyed, 12 people died in germany, 43 throughout europe (among them, a 18 month old girl in bavaria, who'd been sitting on the floor in the living room when the room's balcony door got pressed inside the house by a mega gust of wind and crushed the child to death.... horrible. the parents and siblings were in the same room and had to watch it.)
